Drive By's and the induced/twitch take

Not trying to hijack this thread but let’s not forget the indicator hit....how many times have you had fish come up and eat the bobber?? I’ve had them take it down and fight me for it! Unfortunately it must look like powerbait.....
Somebody needs to craft a quick release indicator fly.

But if that was due to "swivel hits" then you should have fewer hits and the same number of fish landed. More or less.
Strange to me that a group of fisherman who insist that the using correct batch of gun metal gray flashabou is important think that the same genius level trout will eat a swivel instead of their awesome chironomid often enough to matter. Seems that one or another may be true but likely not both.

Then there is size. Couldn’t the size of the swivel be adjusted such that the trout realize that it is the wrong size for the pupae they are eating?

Is it just rainbows that do this? Everyone knows brookies and cutthroats are dummies. Browns are likely too smart to ever hit a swivel.

Further, to follow on what Wayne said, why is it so bad if they do hit the swivel? Is the assumption that the fish would have taken the black, shiny thing with the hook if he wasn’t busy eating the black, shiny thing with no hook? 😳

Yes! Good job figuring that out.

Is this a question of judgement or curiosity? If you are actually curios, I’ll take the time to explain each part.

1. Indicator doing nothing, yes definitely give it a movement and wait.
2. Some routinely do a slow hand twist retrieve with pauses.
3. If you see a fish or school approaching, a slooww long pull, then wait, wait, wait... may capture, their attention!
