Does Coyote Urine repel rats?

I’ve tried a few things….Uncle Ned’s whiz, and other non poison repellants. Like DimeBrite said👆they don’t last long…maybe a month or three depending on the rain.

Traps…both snap and live/humane are indiscriminate.

I also don’t wanna use a poison because of the feathered predators around….so I just added a scope for my pellet gun ( cuz my aging eyes suck and I couldn’t hit shit with the iron sights.)

While effective, those are hell on your rifling.
how effective are they? i love the idea but at a practical range for hitting a rat without spooking it first? i can't picture what those pellets could kill if they spread out much, and if they don't spread out much - with a target the size of a rat don't you need to be as accurate as you would be with a regular projectile? and if so - isn't a regular projectile the better option?

the enemy i have in mind is a little bigger: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bushy-tailed_woodrat

What year is that Crosman?

will just state the obvious since no one has: if you have an outdoor cat that's worth a damn, you won't have rats.
My DIL's mom run a hobby farm and they all did 4H. She swears by her barn cats. She doesn't have possum problems either. Pretty much free roam animals.

When I was a kid, my good buddy had a barn on his property that had a small population of rats. We would spend afternoons with his dad's single shot bolt action .22 rifle loaded with shot shells. The longest shots we took were probably within 20-30 feet. Killed the rats dead. If I remember correctly, we checked the spread on a piece of cardboard and there was around a 6" to 8" spread at that range. His dad paid us a bounty of $0.50 per dead rat, which was pretty good money for a kid in the '80s.

When I was in high school, a couple neighbors and I would spend a Saturday afternoon at the town dump shooting rats with our 22s. The fun was always short lived because after shooting the first few, the rest of them became really skittish and only showed themselves for fleeting seconds. Oh my, the things we country boys occupied our free time with.

Watch some rat trapping videos…
Rats are smart and they send out the youngins to make sure the coast is clear and/or food is safe to eat. And they can get to be a pretty good sized too.

If ya go the cat route…
Don’t over feed ‘em or they get lazy and just wanna sleep.
