NFR Do you believe?

Y’all are going to let the whole idea of using dinosaurs for sinful purposes just slide on by?

Have you tried reasoning with someone who believes this?

The subject of conspiracy theories (the above being the worst kind) came up at work a while back. I about fell over when someone said they listened to a flat earth pod cast which "sounded very convincing". To the point this otherwise, seemingly competent adult, said "I'm almost not sure now'.

My tongue survived biting back a number of comments, starting with "how many times have you used GPS this week?"

I'm in the "There is life out there, but we're never going to meet them" category. I'm a huge sci-fi fan, likely over 5K books read in my lifetime. A couple things stick out:
1 Faster than light travel is not possible and will never be possible.
2 Aliens, if and when we meet them, will likely be so different than we are that even establishing communication will be nigh on impossible. We may not even recognize them as alive or sentient beings.
I'm always amused at talk of man 'going to the stars' or hearing things like: "It's only 3 light years away." Usually this kind of talk involves travel at or near the speed of light. No explanation yet as to how much energy would be required to accelerate a space craft to that speed. Or how a human body would be able to withstand 0 to 670,000,000 mph acceleration. And should the spacecraft ever hit a pebble at that speed the release of energy would probably vaporize the craft in a tiny fraction of a second.

Distances in space are unfathomable. The Voyager spacecraft have been in space for 40 years now and are less than 24 light minutes from earth! Put another way, they are about .05% of the distance to the nearest star and will need another 73,000 years to get there. We may never make it safely to Mars and back.

One of my favorite sci-fi book series (and later also on TV) was the Expanse series. I liked it, especially because 1) no lightspeed travel, and 2) The alien life form was something that was beyond our comprehension.

The Twilight Zone had it right. The aliens are here to serve man...

...for dinner.

Unfathomable indeed. Really the only way to even attempt understanding distances and speeds of this magnitude is by scalar comparison.

So yeah, 40 years as the fastest human moving objects ever made = basically nothing in terms of getting to even the closest solar system. Yet Voyager 1 would make the SR 71 look like a horse and buggy passing it at over 11 miles per second. That plane flew from LA to DC in 1 hour and 4 minutes. Voyager 1 covers that in about 3 minutes. Yup, 73,000 years to the next star ... "are we there yet?"

Methinks: With that in mind: If they have the technology to be here, we're no match for them.

Time for fish and wildlife to sell a stamp or punch card. Allowing night hunting from vehicles with spots of course. Beers required? Maybe a poacher will score first. But who's hunting who? Are you willing to risk abduction just to bag your quarry?
This whole things going to end up real well, not.

I hear you, but it was late and I was wondering if granny was a freak for dinosaurs
