Non-Fly Dirtbag river Coho '24'

Yeah I'm no fan of trebles. I actually lose few if any fish when I run the bead chain to a single 5/0 hook.
I haven’t used a treble on anything for years - and they are not even legal in the sound. I have been running 2 single hooks with just a barrel swivel on each. Problem is not losing fish, but getting hard hits that just don’t stick. I will try a big single on a bead chain and see if it makes any difference.

Bead chain is pretty crucial to running the single point hook. You want the bend of the hook to be just past the "tail" of the plug.

For perspective, what size wart, chain, and hook?
I think the warts only come in two sizes. This is the bigger of the two sizes.

Bead chain: Been a while since I bought any or studied the packaging. I mostly go by the number of beads. This is a 6 bead chain, but I think a 5 bead chain would actually be better, and what I seem to have put on most my other plugs.

Hook is a 4/0 big river it looks like

I use a size 10 six bead on the smaller ones with a size 1 siwash for back trolling coho.

Despite all my dirtbagging shown here, my goal this season is to get a mainstem Columbia River coho on the fly. Pretty sure I'm all set to pull it off, too.

I enjoy the wigglers quite a bit. They cast incredibly easy, and can get really deep. Losing one is a bit heartbreaking however.

There are people fishing the mouth of the Clackamas River where it dumps into the Willamette for coho.

There's coho all over the spots I like to fish for them on the Columbia. Last night I was in a massive pod, by far the biggest I'd ever seen this early. The last several years, I can't recall ever seeing or encountering much for coho at all until like Sept 20th. That said, I can't get them to play ball. My guess is the water temp is still a bit high. Hoping this cooler weather and rain starts bringing that down.

Mostly trolled for chinook yesterday and did get one coho doing that, but pulling in to my casting spots, I saw hundreds but only got one grab in probably 2hrs of trying.

So... on the dirtbag theme... my Okuma SST 8'6" 2-piece spin rod is now a one-piece. No idea why, but the ferrule is now stuck, as if the sections were glued together (and I can assure you they were NOT!). I've tried the usual remedies (cold, sticky tape, etc.), and it's still not moving. I can only imagine the joint has finally cracked (I have caught a lot of fish on this rod), but I can't get it apart, so I still can't be sure. In the meantime, it seems to perform like a one-piece 7-foot rod, except that it's longer (and a LOT harder to load into the truck bed and get in and out of storage). I managed to get it home last night, so I guess I'll keep fishing it until it breaks or something.

Any of you know what's up with this thing and have the magic remedy?

Never heard this about water temp. What temp would you look for?

My salt water rod has been a one piece for years. I’ve tried many of the ‘fixes’ and finally just gave up.

It has it’s own storage place along a rafter in the garage and I picked up a surplus length of PVC pipe for transport.

Works for me
