Deschutes is toast.

Not much to do with this thread but hired a guide for the Deschutes a few years ago in early May. Great guide and good dude. Hired out of main shop there in Maupin. Anyways. We are doing some bushwhacking to rivers edge to get some access…: after a few trips to the river’s edge he tells us about a client they had a year before who was bitten by a rattlesnake doing what we were doing. the dude had to be rushed to the hospital and alll and turned out okay. Apparently several months later the same dude in the fall season sits down by a log to have some lunch and gets tagged by a rattler in the groin. He survived but another hospital trip. We were so paranoid after that story and moved so cautiously around the river. If true horrible!
Once bitten twice shy....so twice bitten...4 times shy? That sucks!

The D is snakey for sure! I sat down on 2 railroad ties that were criss crossed. Made for a great seat. It was right next to that big rock across from the locked gate. I'm sitting there and my buddy says "Don't move". I knew exactly why he said that and sprung up faster than I ever have. Luckily, the rattler just sat there until we chased him away.

The D is the only place I've had a rattler go right over my foot. I was crossing down a steep hill and he went from the high side right over my right wading boot and down the hill! Luckily he was just trying to get the hell outta there! We were both scared! Probably the biggest rattler I've seen at the D.

And just upstream from the rock, on that side of the river, I had a bull snake stand me up in the trail. He was a huge one and he wasn't gonna back down. I literally had to go around. Haha! Thank God rattlers don't do that!

Smallmouth fishing on the Columbia appears as good as ever.. I see lots of carp but........ ewwwwww

I mean it is bass week. If the wdfw works real hard we will have wonderful bass, pikemonnow, and carp fishing all in the formerly great cold-water capitol of the lower 48. Yay for them.

with the past week of hot weather reaching over 100 on the D, and no end in sight to mid and upper 90's generating record river temps, there is far more at play here than only the dam release quagmire.

I was taking a streamside nap on the D, just lying in the shade near the water on my back in a blissed out twilight sleep state. I heard a quiet rustling noise approach on my right and pause, then continue. At this point I realized I should open my eyes and see what’s up, which I did only to see a gopher snake tail sliding off my chest to the left.

Sounds like a @clarkman wet dream.

Making lemonade. Some are fun, others profitable.

I'd instantly trade them if we could reset the cold water time machine to 500 years ago..

That's what we all want but we are not going to get it. We are not going to see large scale or long term improvement improvement of our native fisheries or even cold water not native fisheries. It's just not going to happen and we need to stop thinking like it will. WDFW needs to recognize that fact AND the fact that warm water fisheries are of high quality and worth something to the state of Washington they need to manage them accordingly.
This is not pessimistic, just pragmatic.

Y'all need to take up bass fishing. And maybe taking up chewing tobacco and glittery boats :)

I think you are onto something special!

Replace the WA state fish with carp, Pike minnow, bass or crappie.

Only allow glitter boats towed by EV trucks to be used.

Help build Eastern Washington Middle class America to it's fullest potential.

Upgrade Moses/Soap Lake girls to Bunny Ranch status.

Change chewing tobacco to vaping. Winner!
