People need $1,200 fly rods and $130 fly lines. It’s completely out of control. We’ve been making graphite fishing rods now for, I don’t know, 50 years.
x2...companies spending a fortune on advertising trying to convince us to obtain one of their new $1000 rods made from Unobtainium featuring Next Gen Wonder Taper 6.0. $700 waders because they have a zipper fly.

Ok all ye old farts, according to a quick search of the Google, an Orvis Far and Fine graphite rod in 1980 cost as much as $250. According to an inflation calculator, $250 in 1980 is worth $980 in 2025. So realistically, the price of fly rods has not really increased.

Echo fly rods on sale at Dirty Water Fly Co, seems like a legit small shop in TX.

I sprung for a boost blue to replace my crappy sage foundation. Got home today from a trip all excited to fish it tomorrow . . . . except it didn't have the tip section. The joys of e-commerce.

Of course Echo is also out of tips so can't even go that route as a shortcut. Sent an email to dirty water.

Never know how long they're gonna take these days with these "phone menu options". Never know with these PHONE MENU OPTIONS!!!! I already SAID 2!!!!!! YES YOU HEARD ME CORRECTLY!!!!

Then the music comes on!!!

Well that’s interesting. Shortly after placing my order for a carbon xl they told me it was out of stock in that configuration. Refunded my credit card promptly after I said no thanks to the other rods but I thought it was a bit odd that they had something listed they didn’t actually have. Based on that and your experience makes me not want to buy from them again. Oh well, I tried.

If you don’t like that treatment never order anything from Edge/NFC. They won’t have it even though it’s listed as “in stock” but will happily hold your money for months and if there’s a problem they won’t refund your money.

Perhaps the missing rod tip was an Echo issue? When I worked retail we didn’t necessarily check to see that every part that was supposed to be in a sealed package fresh from the supplier was actually present. I can’t remember having anyone find out something was missing but if so, we’d have handled it as best we could like it sounds like DWFC did.

fwiw my order from DWFC went through perfectly and the rod I ordered arrived promptly with no issues.

I used their products for many years until they closed when the founder died. They have re-started the company, but I have not purchased any units since then. I have been buying from Barrios in Scotland, but suspect this whole tariff foolishness will make it both more expensive and difficult to obtain an international product.

He did get back to me this morning and said that he'd have the tip shipped out monday from Echo. I hope dealers get special access to tips because Echo lists the 7wt boost blue tip as Out of Stock currently

The Stillwater Fly Shop (they operate out of a non store-front warehouse in the business park just outside of Sunriver) has good prices on both new and used rods. Their bread and butter is running fly fishing trips to Cuba based on a mothership, and have a gear trade up program for customers. Good folks to deal with, have bought several rods and reels from them.

Is it on a IM6 blank?? Do you have a picture??

yep, IM6, if serious I'd pull it out of the back of the rube rack and take one

I still have several Loomis IM6 rods, both fly and gear. Very nice sticks and have caught a lot of fish on them.

Just wait a bit. Sage, Scott, T&T, G. Loomis, Winston (and others) are about to raise their prices waaay above $1000 for their flagship rods, and all other lines similarly.
Yep… but remember… some of these brands have far better support… even years down the road than others…
