Community sharing and two requests

As I have said before, this website/forum is a great community, even if it is mostly virtual. I have come to know some, met some, and fish with some (hopefully more in the future).

Now the status update, I had my colon surgery to remove the cancer. During the surgery, they found a second cancer in my appendix, so it was removed. Then, the (long) wait for biopsy results. Now, Tuesday was a GREAT and BLESSED day in my life. Met with my oncologist, and I was told I am CANCER FREE!!! I will be on surveillance schedule with CT scans and very specific blood/enzyme tests every 6 month and frequent flyer colonoscopy schedule for the next 3 years.

So, THANK YOU for all of you for positive thoughts and prayers! I also want to say THANK YOU to those that DM'ed me with their stories and the journeys they are on, and encouraging words. They really helped me in those "hard" days!

Lastly and again, I asked, PLEASE schedule a colonoscopy! It can save your life!! It is far easier than the words cancer and the surgery and treatments that could follow.

I will lift up, in prayers and thoughts, those that are still on the journey!

Fish as many days as you can!

That's awesome Shawn! And it's a BLESSING for those of us that were praying for you!

I missed this the first time around, but I read this whole thread and am overjoyed that it has turned out as it did. I am sure your life going forward will be appreciated every day in a different light, and stories like yours remind me to do the same.

Great news Shawn!
I’m very happy for you and your family.

Shawn -
I'm thankful you shared your experience with forum members; what a true word of warning to all of us to seek medical testing, get our physicals, get our colonoscopy, get blood work, guys - know your PSA and get it tested. Although we've never met, I do consider you a friend (and an advisor in this case). I'm very happy for you and your familiy and wish you continued "cancer free" times; keep up with your "expectant management". Hope to see you this fall!/Pat

Great news!
A friend who is both a physician and university professor breaks down aging health in simple terms.
"you're stuck with your genetics, however, it's your decision to eat to live, or live to eat"

During one of my many post colonoscopies I was informed that the recovery room nurses rate the patients on a scale of one to10 on their proficiency on passing the gas/air they use to expand the colon.
I was an 11, off the scale. 😁
All kidding aside Shawn, I'm thankful for your prognosis and pending recovery.
Thank you for enlightening the members that are hesitant about regular checkups that can catch diseases while treatable.
Too many of us have friends and loved ones no longer with us who waited too long and could have been saved with early diagnosis.
Thank you for updating us with your good news.
Can't wait wait for the February Seeger weather reports.

Wow!! This makes me sooo happy to read! Even though I’m 4 days late in seeing the news and responding I bet you’re still elated and flying high…..colors must be brighter and friends & family that much more dear.

Congratulations
