The portal is going to be crazy this year. Michigan St currently has no QB's on their roster. All three hit the portal.

I think the freshman Chiles from OSU may end up at MSU if he enters the portal.

I heard today that the going rate for a top QB recruit is 1 to 2 million - NIL
Schools like WSU are fucked on the national scene with these kinds of numbers
 
This whole NIL thing as currently constructed is going to be a cesspool of crap.
Boosters, business and large amounts of cash given to 18-27 year olds.
Nothing like that ever turns out well.

Duckwire.com published a story today about Ward going to the Ducks today for 1.5 mil NIL deal. Yahoo sports and the web guzzled it down. Then Duckwire.com pulls the article. Rules state that NILemissaries for universities are not supposed to contact players prior to portal opening ( Dec 4). We all know that is completely ignored. It’s getting very hard to root for 18-23 yo “student athletes” who are just mercenaries. But, the coaches have been mercenaries ever since the 80’s (ie…Dennis Erickson).

It’s interesting that Huard unloaded about Pac-12 and college football leaving the Beavs and Cougs in the dust, on a podcast. I haven’t heard one announcer say much about on any broadcast all year except for a few “it’s a shame” comments. Huard, (despite being a dog :) is knowledgeable, likeable, well spoken, and at least sticks up for the PNW in this clip.

Remember this advertisement: "There are more than 460,000 NCAA student-athletes, and most of them will go pro in something other than sports." In fact, the overwhelming majority of NCAA student athletes will NEVER earn a single pay check from sports after they graduate (see here). Of the 73,000 NCAA football players in Divisions I, II, and III, only 254 will be drafted (16,380 draft eligible / 254 slots = 1.6%) by the NFL. A few more may play in the CFL or USFL, etc. So, the NIL money that is paid to college players may be the only direct money (beyond those athletic scholarships...) that they ever will receive as athletes (excluding the unofficial "green handshakes" from donors after games in college and high school). I couldn't find a web site that provided a complete detailed breakdown of NIL money paid to UW football players, but you can see projected NIL payments to the top 18 players in the Husky football team here. [The major organizer of NIL funding at UW is called Montlake Futures.]. As you would expect, Penix is top dog at $1.2 million (more than the UW president at $842,760 plus $250,00 deferred per year), but #18 on the list is Taeshaun Lyons, a wide receiver, who is estimated to be making $75K, pretty good for a young 20-year-old without a college degree...
And with the NCAA push about a decade ago for better graduation rates among college athletes, the graduation rates of athletes are comparable or better than the general student body (but there are ways of "gaming" the comparison). I wonder if the availability of NIL payments combined with the extra year of COVID eligibility may have provided incentives from more players to complete their degrees and start "postgraduate degrees" where they can continue to receive scholarships and NIL payments. I seem to be seeing more 5 and 6-year college players. They may receive far more in NIL money than they ever would as pros even in the rare event that they were even drafted.
