Okay that was interesting…SpaceX? WTH is that? He works for Elon? Did not know Musk owned coffee interests… looking SpaceX up… I like to know stuff.
How about “it’ll blow your doors off.”Well if Boeing was in to coffee it would be the coffee that advertises ‘it’s so good it makes you feel like your in space for eternity”.
My SIL works for SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA. He works on Starship which I find very cool, very interesting.SpaceX? WTH is that? He works for Elon? Did not know Musk owned coffee interests… looking SpaceX up… I like to know stuff.
I upgraded from the heat gun and metal bowl to a Fresh Roast SR800 with the extension tube around the turn of the year, and it has been reeeeeal nice.Just picked up some green from a local roaster. They don't get descriptive with the specifics, but I grabbed 10 lbs Columbia, 5 lbs Costa Rica, and 5 lbs Ethiopia.
Had some good batches with a variety of Columbians from my last online order so thought I'd buy enough to play with and figure out how we like it. Never overly exciting but can make a good well balanced cup of coffee. My favorite were pretty light roasts where I got a nice juicy/citrusy brightness.
I've been absentee on here. Anyone have any cool new roasters commercial or DIY? I'm still chugging along with my bread maker, heat gun, and data logger setup. Have to be somewhere around 500 lbs roasted at this point.
Nice! What kind of batch size can you do? I'm always somewhat interested in upgrading or building something. Hard to justify much cost when my setup seems to work pretty well. But you never know what you're missing without trying something new I suppose.I upgraded from the heat gun and metal bowl to a Fresh Roast SR800 with the extension tube around the turn of the year, and it has been reeeeeal nice.
What do you pay per pound for green coffee from the mystery local roaster?
Most of the time I do the max recommended capacity, which is 8 of the little scoops they give you, and it ends up being about half a pound of green beans.Nice! What kind of batch size can you do? Well, they used to sell at $4.50/lb for everything they stocked. Went yesterday expecting the same and got rung up at $6.80/lb. Their old pricing was double the green for roasted coffee. Now green was increased 52% and roasted only 22%. Seems odd. Roaster is Ootopia in Bremerton. At that price I'll likely stick to online where I get more choices. Still not bad for a local pickup.
It probably won’t cost as much as that switch if you roast your own. Some of the devices can get pricey but they are optional, and last a long time. Buying the good stuff from commercial roasters will set you back.I’ve been working my way through this thread since listening to Matt and Nick talk about this on the way back from tuna fishing. I’ll drink just about anything, including the Folgers that comes in teabags, but I’m intrigued now. My only concern is that the same thing will happen as when I traded the three buck chuck for Walla Walla’s best.
Ok, so what’s a good first purchase of beans for someone too lazy to do his own research? I already have a heat gun, a bowl, and a stick. It probably won’t cost as much as that switch if you roast your own. Some of the devices can get pricey but they are optional, and last a long time.
