I am attending the Mariners game with fireworks afterwards. My wife hates fireworks with a passion. With King County banning fireworks, she is a happy camper. Being on a lake fireworks are normal. This year should be better...

We have had the same family over for 26 years. This year it continues of course. My wife thinks I will not be buying any fireworks. Only time will tell. Couch sleeping may be in order.

It's like the War of 1812 over Martha Lake South. I'm going to watch the fireworks!

I’ll be camping out with 5 other families. I hope to heck no bozos blow up fireworks out in the woods but there are a lot of fireworks-loving bozos in the world.
 
I don’t mean to imply everyone who loves fireworks is a bozo. That’s not the case. They aren’t my favorite thing (I look at ‘em kinda like jet skis, employed by amateurs it’s only cool if you’re the one doing it) but— Time and place.
 
Back in 1976 we lived in Philadelphia. We had been in the US all of a maybe a year and half. I was 5 years old. The city was nuts excited about the 200th anniversary. That morning we had gone out Valley Forge and watched Gerald Ford arrive in a helicopter, he was signing that site on as a National Park. A hazy morning....

Later we must have gone downtown, we saw tall ships in the Delaware, but most of all I remember all kinds of people, male and female, lots of giant afros, more than one Uncle Sam, Betsy Ross too, all on roller skates in USA colored tank tops and super short shorts with piped edges and tube socks pulled high doing cool roller skate stuff in a big parade. So much weird in the parade (Philly does that well with the Mummers). Tons of patriotic swag was thrown our way, candy, chinese yo-yo things (rolled up paper you flicked and it shot out like a saber) in red white and blue.... marching bands, cheer squads, dance squads, music, slushies, rocket pops in red white and blue....Dudes dressed as redcoats getting booed, dudes dressed like Washington, Ben Franklin, and so many re-enactors, minutemen, maybe the Continental army, marching to the tin flute and snare. Big crowds, muggy east coast summer kind of day...

If I could swing it, this July 4, man how cool would it be to time-machine it back to 1976 and relive that day. Watch the whole scene go down, watch my folks and brother and I taking it all in, that would be so fun....

Back then there were ALL KINDS of 1776 commemorative beer cans which all the kids were collecting...

Well at least we get to relive the 70s era inflation and mega fireworks 🥳

The Bicentennial was a huge deal and being in Philadelphia was the perfect place. Philly is going big again this July for the 250th anniversary.
 
We'll be making the annual July 4th trip to Mason Lake for the long weekend. The property has been in the family since 1941. It will be a busy, busy weekend. No fishing up there by this guy. (Saw some very nice bass off the dock on the last trip up.) Too many wake boarders. There are other close options.

But the eagle / osprey watching will be great!
 
No plans for me. I usually try to make sure I don't have to drive anywhere on holidays and will pick alternate days to celebrate or go places. I understand celebrating centennials, but I didn't know celebrating semi-centennials was even a thing until this year. America is still so young it (we) don't know what it means to have been around for a while. We could learn something from our European and Asian neighbors.
 
What do you do when there is a free day at the Zoo—stay home. Here in Montana the 4th is a Zoo with everyone under the sun hitting all the rivers and parades. You can’t travel through Ennis for hours because of the parade. It’s a lot more satisfying to stay home and enjoy patriotic films on the telly.
 
Nothing...busiest weeks of the year in June, grateful for a few days off.
 
We'll be hiding in the basement with the critters. The Fourth in Lincoln sounds like Fallujah circa 2004 on a normal year, this year is probably gonna be extra explodey. Sunday I'm hoping most people will be hungover, so I'll try to sneak out and harass the fish before it gets too hot.
 
Just going to keep my dogs as calm as possible.
 
I just read that the White House fireworks display on the 4th will be the largest, most beautiful, most spectacular and longest fireworks display ever created (no surprise there) consisting of some 850,000 pyrotechnics launched into our nations sky. It will, however, not be starting on time due to a MAGA rally now scheduled to take place before a legion of adoring fans. Our government at work. 🥲
 
For the ones with dogs, would a Thunder shirt work? My GP does not seem to be affected by fireworks; place is pretty insulated from sound.

Folks, let me tell you, this fireworks show is going to be incredible. Absolutely incredible. Two hundred and fifty years. Nobody does two hundred and fifty years like America. Other countries tried it, frankly, not as good. Very weak sparklers. Sad little sparklers.

We’re going to have rockets. We’re going to have booms. We’re going to have red, white, and blue exploding so beautifully in the sky that people are going to look up and say, “Sir, I’ve never seen freedom detonated with such precision.” And I’ll say, “I know. I know.”

The Founding Fathers, great guys, very smart, tremendous signatures. John Hancock, big signature guy. Maybe the biggest signature. He would’ve loved this show. He’d be standing there with Washington saying, “Donald, this is exactly what we had in mind when we crossed the Delaware. Maybe with more lasers.”

And the finale? You’re not ready. Nobody’s ready. It’s going to be so bright, Canada’s going to put on sunglasses. The British are going to see it and say, “Okay, fair enough, you win again.”

Two hundred and fifty years of liberty, fireworks, hot dogs, bald eagles, and people arguing over parking. That’s America, folks. Beautiful thing. Tremendous thing. God bless America.

Our little chocolate Heeler (Coco) has a Thundervest, really seems to help her.
 
I got this email from WA state parks.
Disgusting that our beautiful beaches had 141,000 lbs of trash on them after the 4th last year. WTF people, come on, do better!
