So, according to your logic, it's OK to be hypocritical unless you're a climate activist.

Oh my............

Your inability to understand the concept of hypocrisy as it relates to the points being made in this thread is evidence that logic should be required curriculum in school. It is a cornerstone of debate and the foundation by which policy, critique, and other observations should be made. If you are genuine in your responses and not trolling then it is of no wonder to me we are where we are as in outlawing leaf blowers while private jets trot the globe with little to no protest. Again I'm amazed and dismayed.

When this site was first created, I was amazed and hopeful. Seeing the restraint that the usual participants in this type of, dare I say it, trolling, on the previous forum were able to maintain. Alas, it seems those days of restraint are behind us, conversations need to be about fluff or blood pressures and rhetoric will rise.
I do find the humorous contributions of Dustin Chromers hilarious, and kind of thought provoking.

The fact you don't understand the crux of the point makes it difficult to have anything more than a comedic conversation. Then again, I'm always happy to meet you at your level for laughs.
" If I had that kind of money, I'd do the same". You don't find this statement hypocritical. The end.

If you looking for someone to trade ad hominem, condescending, remarks under the guise of a debate with substance, then find someone else to irritate. Such back and forth BS is a waste of forum space and will likely get the Mods to react.

I'm not attempting to be condescending. And I in no way want to insult you in the slightest. I sincerely apologize if you took my remark that way. Perhaps I'm failing to adequately describe or illustrate my point. I will attempt again in all sincerity.

The hypocrisy lies not in the act of flying private. The hypocrisy lies in flying private then being critical of others for less damaging activities. The action without critique of others is not hypocritical. The critique while performing said action is the hypocrisy.

I have come to the belief that laughing at ourselves and at issues facing us and others is a somewhat healthy vehicle to speak seriously and frankly about solutions. My favourite section of any paper is the political cartoon if done well. It simplifies and distills a complex issue back to basics and gets a laugh. A dose of laughter makes even the most bitter medicine go down easier. I love to laugh and like when others laugh. I do not want to be having a laugh at someone or at their expense in a malevolent fashion. And please know I heartily and even more critically laugh at myself. I provide plenty of fodder to laugh at myself at my own expense.

And yes I find it hilarious that private jets are fine and leaf blowers the evil we must condemn for a better future. This is funny because the action doesn't meet the problem other than a feel good drop in a big bucket measure. Just like straws. I also find it hilarious the article in the Seattle times. The logic and points made in it are comically bad. It is an illustration of a clown world artifact. And while at the circus enjoying the clowns falling down and their general idiocy it's appropriate to laugh. I would say to anyone thinking I don't take the problem seriously to propose a serious solution worth serious critical thinking cause leaf blowers aren't it. Once again I'm...

I have certainly been biting my tongue, for the greater good! I am a news junkie, so this site is a welcome respite from the political melee online.

No, just pointing out the one lady is holding the leaf blower funny. Sort of a joke that did not land.

I was not looking at how she held the blower. Something else kept my attention...

Bingo.

A smart guy with some money would be buying up used cars. In 2035 they'll be worth a fortune at least in California.

It's my GUESS that banning the sale of new gas cars will have the following affects.

1. Used car prices will sky rocket hurting the poor and middle class.
2. Parts for cars will be extremely hard to find.
3. No appreciable slowing in the rate of climate change
4. Apathy towards climate change.

Probably right about 1 and 2. Hope you are wrong about 3 and 4.

And our anti carbon appointee John Karey is flying around to numerous countries convincing them of the evils of CO2 in the atmosphere and global warming. Like his Gulf stream is fuel efficient and he can't do the same thing on a computer. Well maybe with the exception of Thailand and their specialty young women workers and the Netherlands and their liberal drug laws and bordellos..

And remember John was "wounded" by a grain of rice and receive a purple heart.

Another possibility is car manufacturers telling California to go to hell and stop selling cars in California. Not likely but possible.
Especially not likely since virtually all of them are going down the EV path anyway. Electric cars are coming whether there is a regulation or not. I hope and believe that by the time all these mandates kick in the technology will be mature enough that people are going to want them anyway. I think about the things that have changed in the time I've been on this planet, and I'm blown away by the amazing creativity of our species. There are some other traits of our species that blow me away too, and not in a positive way. When we work together, there is nothing we can't do.

Why would they do that, by then they will have mostly all switched over anyways. All as in all automobile manufacturers.

"General Motors says it will make only electric vehicles by 2035, Ford says all vehicles sold in Europe will be electric by 2030 and VW says 70% of its sales will be electric by 2030."

This isn't changing, all of the research and development money is going in ev right now, and the new platforms for the next 10 years are being developed now using that r and d money.

It's simple, less moving parts, less assembly costs for manufacturers.

 🤣

Thinking things are not going that way is a fools game.

Did someone say #blownaway? As president of the Combustion Blower Community (CBC) I approve this type of rhetoric. We have a simple mantra and that mantra states that whatever blows your socks off or skirts up we don't judge just so long and you're blowing responsibly and representing the community in a positive manner. We need to change the narrative so that when a pimple faced teen surfer utters, "dude, this blows!" You can proudly exclaim, "damn right it does, isn't it great.?!" We need blowing to be seen as positive and drop the negative stigma. There's nothing negative about blowing, blowers, or the jobs they create. No matter what job you have, no matter what walk of life you're in, no matter your race, your political leanings we all must blow together to form a unified and beautiful devine wind. Nobody can blow like we all can blow. And there's no job too big or daunting that can't be blown away, with positivity. These efforts to outlaw blue collar blow jobs are just a cut rate hack job if you ask me. Wherever there are leaves you'll find us. Wherever there are yard debris needing to be transported without touching into your neighbors yard you'll find us. Blow jobs are good jobs that support families and communities. We can all blow harder together. Come on everyone! Get behind your blowers and get to work. Let's clean up the stigma and blow away the negative press. We've got a job to do, let's do it!
