I only caught one of these in Arkansas

That's a nice bluegill. I like them as long as they're not blocking me from a carp grab! My buddy is still having nightmares about getting carp-blocked by a tiny little gill. This thing was easily 15# and would've been his first carp.
I saw the whole thing go down and still not sure how the little bastard beat the carp to the grab. They're quick!!

I used to fish Round Lake in Camas for big bluegill. It's the weird brother of Lacamas Lake. I don't think I ever caught a 12", but several in the 10" range and man those things pull!

This pumpkinseed didn't pull much, but he sure was pretty! And hit the same popper that 2# bass were hitting. Gotta eat!

Unlikely -- probably one of the longear sunfish complex, which look superficially similar. P-seeds do not occur in Arkansas.

Ha! Yeah I figured it was a booby but from the way it was positioned in the fish's mouth, it appeared to be something a little south of there.

My wife continues to tell me I never matured past age 12

This is a red eared sunfish aka shellcracker. They’re a little different from a pumpkinseed.

I think thats a female (and portly/gravid) bluegill. I also think we get a lot of hybrids over here.

That's a very chunky bluegill! Black spot at rear of dorsal fin, wide black "ear" flap with no clear or red/orange margin, long pointy pectoral fins, relatively small mouth, no bluish stripes on the cheek. No evidence of any sort of hybrid influence...
