Bro, your boat!!!!

I had to swim after my skiff on a windy day at the local reservoir. Never ever cleat off with polypro line….

Cough, cough, umm, well, umm, you see, cough, I cant say it's never happened to me. 🙃

Wind blew my DB off the bar plus 15' of anchor rope. Watched it float down through the tailout, down the shoot and around the corner on a nice cold January morning.

Luckily a friend was down river and seen my boat with no one in it, his buddy and him went and got it and rowed it over to my side as my buddy and I were scrambling down the river bank.

A very sickening feeling watching it float on by helplessly!

Funny stuff. Glad everything worked out safely. Love how swimmy is a true bud and busting out the camera Lol

Not to pick on my bro as we've all fucked up.

But a few weeks ago we were out for a float and I noticed his oar locks had widened to the point the oars could pop out. I mentioned that he should heat 'em up and bend 'em back as that could be a problem. I'm not sure he though much about it.

Fast forward to the next week, he was out for a solo float on the lower river and.....you guessed it. He lost an oar, didn't have a spare, and had to "paddle" his drift boat out at dark using just one.

He showed up the other day with two snazzy new Sawyer's and had fixed his oar locks.

Guess sometimes the best lessons are learned the hard way.

No need to heat them up, just hit it with a rock a few times is all that is needed!

While i was going back to get the trailer, my guest on a float trip on the OP decided that he would be better of getting back into the boat and rowing partly across the river to shorten his cast. When i returned to the take out the boat was anchored just feet above the riffle exiting the gravel bar . I yelled out to him and he said he couldn't get back. Fortunately i was able to wade out to the boat and get back. He explained that this had been his first attempt at rowing. He had traveled the full length of the bar close to 100 yards.

I'd make more fun of the guy, but that feels like the kind of mistake I'd make myself at least once twice.
Yeah...it was indeed a valiant and successful boat rescue! It reminded me of the web cam bear pics from Brooks Falls in Alaska. A magnificent beast hunting its prey.
