Big Island & Oahu 2024…and Teti’aroa

There are a couple salt water ponds on property at the hotel we are staying at…one has a ton of tilapia and ulua (jacks) and they have a keiki fishing program to remove the tilapia with cane poles…I have put in a request to fish it with fly rod, hopefully tomorrow…boy are they going to be surprised when I show up with my 6wt trout spey and poppers to help “remove tilapia”…

There is already a fisherman on the pond…

So…it was a no go to fish the property pond…however, they will be having a fishing program for guests in the near future …

I went to Mahu Kona to see if I could wet a line there. Big south swell were bringing waves into the parking lot…

On Oahu, the couple days I was there it was 20-25 mph winds. Did go out on a small boat to fish the Triangle out of Sand Island…got shots at six single large bones, but so windy didn’t see them until they were almost a rod length away…two refusals, three spooked, one eat…and broke off. Called it quits at noon, water turned murky with the incoming tide.

Heading to Tetairoa today…

Morning was overcast and windy…spotted a couple bones and a jack swimming with them…of course the jack out swam the oio to the fly…this happened a couple times.

Teihotu couldn’t make it until noon, so his son Manea took me out
