BIG articulated streamer swap

settle down....TOO many questions.....let's get this filled first, eh? does that mean you're in?

a'ight, you're in!

But honestly, probably within a month or two....
Normally that would but I just put my kids’ winter sports schedules and the winter swim team schedule into the calendar and I don’t think I can guarantee I’ll have time to. I gotta back out.

Awww, but that's what late night tying sessions are for!

Is everyone else in the swap tiger-focused, or are these likely to do double duty for other critters (lingcod, bass, bulls, etc.)?

double, triple, quad duty for me....

a'ight, you've been deleted.

TWO spots left!

Although, if they don't get filled, it would probably be reasonable to go with 2 flies each.

excellent! down to one spot left! I'll leave this open for another week or two.

bump

one spot left!

I'll probably close it by the end of the week and send out a DM with details.

All right, let's go ahead and close this. I'll let the rest of the participants choose if they want to do just one or two flies per person (Personally, I'd say one given what goes into it, but I'll defer to what others vote on). I'll send out a DM in the coming days with additional info like due date, additional deets, etc.

I did have an idea though, perhaps tie an extra (as if you would be receiving your own back), but have that extra go into a pot where I'll post pics of all of the flies here, forum folks can vote on their favorite and whoever wins that gets an extra of each....but also open to other ideas for that extra.

You guys are awesome, so you don't need any advice from me but I'll give it anyway... Save the extras and donate them to a worthy auction?

Also, question: what makes "good" bucktail?

Ok...I'm still not 100% clear on this...we tie 5 flies each of one style and send them to you...we then receive one of each from each tyer back (4 in return since there are only 5 of us)?...

For me a good bucktail has 4” or better long fibers with just a little crinkle, if straight it should be hollow so that it flares nicely.
I have a lot of 3 1/2, some of my longer fiber tails are “flat” (won’t flare) but I reverse hollow tie those to make them work.

just hang on....let me send out a DM to all participants that'll fill in any potential blanks....I anticipate due date will be after the holidays.

but basically, yes. then those extras go to whoever gets voted the best on an open forum (blinded) vote. Buuuuut, would be open to doing what y'all want to do.

yep, as stated, length and density. I like a little crinkle, but more importantly is the qty of hollow fibers. They all have their place within a big fly (at least the stuff I tie). But my favorite is high density, crinkly, hollow and long. I also utilize the backside of the tail for building a lightweight body that pushes a ton of water if dense enough.

I suppose if one is tying clousers only, then hollow is NOT great.
