I don't believe so, no. All guided stuff so I imagine chasing the grand slam will be the goal.

I spent a couple weeks there about 7 or so years ago. Less than 50% fishing. This fly, the guide’s fly, caught two permit, as-is, missing a pincer.

For bones, small, more drab stuff usually. Some almost no weight, some with a little weight. I never used any heavy flies for bones.


For baby tarpon and snook in the mangroves, I used an epoxy-head blue and white synthetic baitfish (with eyes) on something like a 1/0 B10S. I had other stuff but that’s what the guide suggested and that’s all that was needed. Nothing fancy. I didn’t want anything weighted more than that back in there.
I reaaally enjoyed Belize. I liked it more than the Mexican Yucatán even though the food in Mexico is generally 10x better.

I’m far from a tropics expert, but I tied these and they look good and caught fish. Bunny with some SF flash and pheasant.

Timely thread for me, I'm headed to Playa Del Carmen Sunday and will take some time to fish.

When I fished there the guides were hot on 2" long baitfish patterns. Hooks size 1 and 2. Silver and black eyes. Body white with a dash of gray or black on the tail. Very little flash. They also like the above in a light gray body. I gave them all I had when I departed.
