Baseball 2025

Baseball is a joke from a competition perspective.

Most of the money is in the ALE and they get 3 teams in the playoffs. And its such a simple fix.

No divisions. Balanced schedule. Everybody plays everybody the same number of games.

Top 6 (too many but I'd compromise) make the playoffs. 1 and 2 get first round byes. 3 hosts 6 and 4 hosts 5. Winners move on.

And just an FYI. For those who say money doesn't just mean you make the playoffs. That is simply a misleading statement. A few years ago I did an extensive look across 10 seasons. Teams that spent the most or second most money within their division made the playoffs 80% of the time. The fallacy is that naysayers just rank team payrolls top to bottom and say see teams well down the list make the playoffs all the time. That's a true statement but out of context. How much you spend within your division is critical.

Seems like yesterday I was looking forward to the start of the season and today they are playing number 162. How did that happen? Been an exciting year to be an M's fan, lots of ups and downs but the best part is they still have games to play. We'll see but I've got to say the team from LA has certainly looked tough the last couple days.

The royals have been eliminated.

Some new managers coming to the Giants, Rangers and Twins so far….
Kind of surprised the Mets with their owner and payroll brought back their manager.
Go Phillies!

IMO, Managers rarely matter. They only really matter in the post season.

And Mets paying Soto several fortunes to watch the post season on TV. Karma of course for tripping up Gavin Williams' NH with 2 outs left in the 9th. 😄

I tend to disagree. One or two bad managerial decisions over a 162 game season can be the difference in missing the playoff by a game or two.

And some times watching Lou come unglued was worth the price of admission. Lots of colorful manages back in the day really added to the game in a way.

Hence the word, rarely.

The other portion of it is that it is very difficult to determine when a manager actually adds to a teams chance of winning. You never know what would happen if the manager made a different decision. Over the course of 162 it's really hard to pinpoint instances when they matter vs. the potential other options. Also, pitching decisions made today can have effects on the pitchers tomorrow or months later. That choice to win today can lead to 2 losses in a month.

I have always held that managers are generally not all that important. I do think that there are some that can be game changers. Terry Francona handled a bullpen like no other, especially in a short series. Lou Pinella seemed to squeeze every ounce of talent and production out of his players and was excellent at getting a team ready to play. Tony La Russa was ahead of his time with regards to strategy. I veiw them as outliers rather than the norm. It's really a lightly "coached" game.

Consider that Joe Torre is considered a great manager. I don't think that I have ever seen someone manage a bullpen worse throughout the year. He was wildly succesful though. He got 2 new relievers whose career he could ruin every trade deadline.

Looks like the Angels just joined the teams with no managers.
Scott Servais maybe?

Yankees and Bosox in a 9th inning nail-biter... Chapman loads the bases with no outs bottom 9 and gets out untouched... amazing.

Having grown up in Montreal, it is really hard to cheer for anything Toronto but gotta say, love seeing what they're doing to the Yankees!!!

Go M's!!

Are the Yankees in baseball like the Cowboys are to football?

Yes, in my book...

If you're trying to say they are "America's team".

No, they are not!
