Someone is going to vastly overpay for Ohtani at the expense of surrounding him with quality position players. A common practice in football-pay the quarterback so much that the team can't afford a decent offensive line. No quarterback, at any price, is capable of overcoming a porous offensive line.
In baseball, even if a guy hits 70 home runs and has 125 RBI's he can't compensate for 5 or 7 other guys that hit between .200 and .238. Some teams already have 3 superstars but even they can't always prosper, particularly against good pitching.

Whoever is in charge of PR for the Mariners should be fired. If the goal is digging the hole deeper and pissing off even more of their fans, then they are doing well.
