Banks Lake Steelhead Plant

Maybe they will go down the pipes that feed Banks Lake into the Columbia just like the Walleyes did when they planted them there

For an underfunded agency, why go through the expense of transporting them all the way to eastern WA?
Just plant them in local lakes if they aren’t going to stock them where intended.

Smallmouth food
A quote from the article....looks like the Smallies might have some competition. :ROFLMAO:
"Initial reaction on Facebook leaned heavily towards angry faces, with one person commenting “Sad!” An email to this chronicler of all things Northwest steelhead was subject-lined “Don’t p*ss on me and tell me it’s raining.” But another person online looked at the bright side: “Thank you for feeding the walleye they taste better than steelhead anyway.”

A swim bait for walleye will be a very popular lure.

Are they releasing the fish in the recently announced super fund area?

I haven't heard of anything on Banks. Are you thinking about the one on the Columbia above Northport to the Canadian border?

Looks like I need to subscribe to open the link. Does it mention Banks?
Sent your a copy/paste of the link's report.

There's nothing new about the potential health hazards from pollution in the upper Columbia so the designation as a super fund site isn't surprising. I'm interested in what the US/Canada remedies might be. I'm having a hard time seeing how any cleanup can be accomplished.

The US side of the border and its smelter at Northport.

State fish managers must also find a home for around 75,000 Tokul Creek winter steelhead smolts following their and a local tribes’ decision to terminate an early-winter hatchery program on the Snoqualmie River tributary.

“We have not made that decision yet,” said Edward Eleazar, Region 4 Fish Program manager in midafternoon.

Any guesses on where the Tokul fish will end up?

I believe that the pipes supply Banks Lake; not the other way around.

I think the release site has to be someplace where they can't compete with ESA listed species.

I agree, but there are definitely lakes closer that would meet that criteria without having to ship them to Banks. There are already lakes in SW Washington where they release surplus adult hatchery steelhead.
