This is Mia, our border collie aussy mix. (yes, she's allowed on the couch)
Sadly, a few months ago she was diagnosed with bladder cancer and there is no cure. The only problem she has right now is the tendency to pee a lot. We have her on pain meds in case she's in pain and we don't know it. They may also slow the spread of the cancer but we really don't know how long she has. We lost our previous dog to cancer so these are tough times for us. Hopefully she has many more months but we don't know. Right now she is playing and eating and acting perfectly normal, other than the peeing thing.
We are not looking forward to the time she starts to go down hill. We have no children so she a beloved family member.

It is hard letting go of a dog. They don’t live long enough but they do live life to the fullest. Something we all need.
We usually have at least two dogs at most times. Currently we have three. All different ages. When one moves on the others help with the grieving. They grieve also. In one of the pics I posted of two of our dogs Maggie, our Pomeranian is still with us. After Kuma died she moped around here for a couple weeks. It was sad watching her go to Kuma’s favorite places looking for him.

We just have the one dog right now. He’s 8. Last year my wife was pushing the “backup dog” idea. Put a deposit down on a pup and everything. We had to hold off for a bit but the concept is solid.
I can't believe it's been nearly 10 years since Tango left....He was the best little brother to our kiddo (even if he was a little jealous of his toys).
This was just a couple of months before I had to put him down.

It's so hard saying goodbye to our best friends. Thankfully, we have always had two of more dogs, which I firmly believe helped when we had to say goodbye. With Cody, last fall, we had Maggie and Coco, so we didn't't have that empty house feeling, it's still hard though.

Most definitely a difficult task when it's "time," but oh the love, loyalty and joy dogs give us . . . unequivocally and without reservation.

Sherman consoling Rosie a few days after we had to put her brother Rocky down. We lost Rosie earlier this month. It was especially hard because she was my dad's dog and he passed away almost 3 years ago.
