Atlantic trolling flies

Looking for the tuna guys to check in here. I have some friends that have decided they've had enough of this political climate and are hitting the high seas. They've requested flies that can be trolled through the propwash as they move. I would love to tie some stuff for them that had a reasonable chance of working, but I'm a river/pond kinda tier!

They're leaving from North Carolina in a couple weeks, heading towards Puerto Rico.

Hoping to find some repeatable patterns i can send them a few of. I'm ok with picking up new materials, really just looking for some patterns people have confidence in on the troll.

Post pics, links, recipes, whatever you think might fit their needs

Thanks in advance!

Not sure about specific patterns but read that ballyhoo are a standard offshore bait. Would seem good starting point to imitate.

Clousers, Deceivers, and Half-and-Halfs to start?

6" Clousers with a hang-back hook take a lot of prop wash silvers with the occasional King on the OR coast. The hang-back hook critical as the bites are often on the back half.

Might make sense to rig some up with a wire trace or tell them to get some wire leader material in case they run into mackerel or other toothy critters.

Hoping @Vagabond chimes in since he's got connections in that area
Either tonight or tomorrow at some time when I get home I’ll dig into my collection of large caliber flies and see what I have and post some images, etc. if it’s tuna forget the wire. If it’s King Macs it’s wire at least 60#.

Trey Combs book, Blue Water Flyfishing, which I have, has some great patterns with recipes. It, the book not me, is about 30 years old but the fish don’t know that. The book is 🏦 for info.

@Pink Nighty
Where are they departing from and where are they headed?

Ahhhh……”trolling flies”….not in my bag of tricks. Didn’t catch that on the cell in the dark while buying fuel. For me trolling is like watching a TV test pattern. You’ll be looking at bullet head lures with artificial hair or as @SurfnFish mentioned large/long Clouser like flies might suffice.
Port of Departure location from MHC to Wilmington area would help and I can point them in the right direction.
Vessel type? Sport fisherman or trawler?
