Asking river recommendation for skagit casting practice

I booked a guided trip in OP and hope to practice casting before visiting there. Problem is, I don't know opened river near Seattle. Upper Sky will be closed soon...

Could you please recommend some riversides opened for fishing? I don't like to go through Snoqualmie pass. It's scary :(

Get in touch with the local game warden and tell him or her where you’ll be practice casting with a fly that has the point clipped off.
You can find out who patrols the river you want to go practice on by calling or emailing the WDFW regional office.

Any river will work. Call Game Warden for the area you will be at. Use a piece of yarn on the end of your leader to replace a fly.

Do they still have the class on Saturday morning on Snoqualmie in Fall city. If they do do not mention Skagit casting more Spey casting I mention Skagit an got a ear full of how that system was design for lazy people who don't know how to cast.

I plan to practice in the Lake Washington Canal in Fremont, once my OPST head arrives.
Why don't you practice on that lake your living on. There you can have all the water to yourself.

I will! But I also want to practice on moving water. Question for spey folks: Does casting from a dock a couple feet higher than the water surface work?

The extra elevation kind of changes everything, but it’s still probably better than nothing.

Will it work? Yes. Will it be the same as standing knee deep in moving water? No.

As a two-handed casting instructor, I face this situation often. Spoke w/WDFW Conservation officer and he told me to call the enforcement Div. of WDFW and talk w/them about taking students on closed waters.
In my area (Thurston Co.) they WDFW, asked me to contact them (enforcement div.) before the class or instruction & let them know when I would be on the river and to make certain that all the students rods had yarn only at all times. They have no problem with this activity on closed water as long as I follow this procedure, has worked for me for many years.
Hope this helps.
