Area 9 Opener

Wasn’t a fan of the int/2/3.
If you don't mind, could you share a little bit about what you didn't like? I've been thinking of picking a beach line with a type 3 tip/head for a bit, so I'm following this with interest.

Fished a very popular MA 9 beach this morning from about 9-11. Plenty of shakers and one small wild coho of about five pounds. Crazy thing was the little cloud that moved in and dropped a mini-monsoon. Cleared out a lot fishers. Wind died enough for me to go fish my favorite southside spot where I caught the unclipped fish. Speaking of lines: I’ve been fishing a Cortland 5/6 200gr Specialty Compact Float. Tosses my popper nicely.

If you start a new thread, I can move them. Or at least guess at which threads you want moved.
Whatever makes sense to you? I know a few of the line posts starting on page 8 are intermingled with reports. I started a thread. Appreciate it!

Well, I did my best. Though because of the way moving posts works, it appears that the moved posts get inserted oldest to newest. So your post starting that thread is now all the way a the bottom. I'm not sure there is a way to fix that.

Could you move say post 23 (a post by me) in this thread over there so it's the first post then I'll just edit it with the first post info?

Done. Looks like it worked. I was actually able to copy it so it didn't get deleted from this thread. Head to the new thread and edit. Should be good.

Word on the street is that tomorrow (8/4) will be the last day for Chinook retention in MA 9. No word yet whether the closure will be for all salmon (like MA 6) or just Chinook.

Don’t even out that second sentence sentiment out into the universe!!!! :).

On WDFW's web site the MA 9 quota status was updated before noon. Through 7/31 the estimate was that 87% of the MA 9 Chinook quota had been taken.

close area 9 just before Elliott Bay opens - perfect, just perfect....
for long launch lines... guess I'll be getting up a little earlier Friday, Saturday and Sunday.......

Emergency regs just posted.

Chinook fishing In MA 9 suspended beginning Friday with a switch to a coho directed fishery expected to last until September 28th.

When did they eliminate the October fishing in MA9? Was that to protect wild-origin fish in the Stilly/Snoho drainages?

MA9 was closed for salmon in October last year as well. Major bummer!

The wild Snohomish coho in recent years has been what has limited the coho fishing in MA 9 and MA 8-2 in recent years. The Snohomish coho prior to 2014 was one of the most robust coho stocks in the PNW. In fact, twice in the earlier 200s the Snohomish wild coho escapements were in the 1/4 million range. To put that is some context the entire wild coho forecast returning to Puget Sound was only 266 K.

The driver in the decline in the wild Snohomish coho abundance seems to be driven by declining marine survival in Puget Sound.
