Another Hotrod??

Like I really need more bamboo rods….but the weather has been too crappy even for me to fish! So I built a 6’1” two piece 4/5 weight. Fiberglass ferrule, stacked bamboo grip, homemade Laburnum reelseat with Ray Lee hardware, vintage glass stripper wrapped with orange/black variegated tiger thread. Just lawn cast it while snowing and blowing…..need to fish it!

Looks good to me!

I can't tell but I assume you're rounding the butt section where if fits into the tip's female ferrule.

Actually I’ve been leaving the sections hex, not rounded. Maybe a little shaping on the tip section that has the ferrule glued to it, but the butt section left hex for a tight fit. By using a piece of fiberglass rod, I have to fit the ferrule on the tip section from the bottom, since the two sections are close in diameter can’t really round the butt section. Works for me…..

I’ve had this bottle of stain forever from my wood carving days….Behlen solar-lux American Walnut. It really matches Granger’s color. 3-4 wiped on coats.

If you get a chance, a mini tutorial on how to make a fiberglass ferrule would be really helpful. I'd like to one day make a spey rod with fiberglass ferrules.
Your woodworking is always exceptional.

Mark, these Hotrod fiberglass ferrules are just a piece of a donor rod. Not tapered like other fiberglass ferrules. You need to ask makers of blanks how to do it……
