DaVinci imagined flying machines. Athletes are trained to "see it" and practice visualizing success so much they are prepared to react to these visions and not take time to think.
Seems most kids are afraid of the monster under the bed..

I live near a hotbed of sightings and have put a good amount of time through the deep heart of the Olympics. Empty. I'd love to see or believe. Loved the X-Files series, science fiction.

For me, hard evidence of any type is needed. In Nepal, there was a little stop above Namche Bazaar in the Everest region where one could see the remains of a Yeti head. Looked like the top of a coconut to me.

Possible versus probable I suppose. With AI now getting so good, and people getting more ..lets say "Kool-Aid friendly", we are going to have visual proof indistinguishable from fact on any subject.

Next- there are so many studies nowadays of "eDNA" in waterways. DNA is very stable. Where is the bigfoot signature in all this?

Why rule out the one exception of female Samsquatch and child sighting?

Obviously a patriarchal society. The males are roaming looking for sustenance while the females are caring for the young and old.

How are they supposed to develop the primers to identify Sasquatch DNA without a known sample to work from? Also eDNA techniques are just so-so at detecting low abundance, cryptic organisms. It can take a whole whole lot of sampling to get a “hit,” even if you know what you’re looking for is present, but you don’t know where exactly, and there aren’t many of them.

I have no actual sightings. I am not an expert on NW wildlife sounds but have heard some very odd animal noises that I can find no similar recordings of. A friend on a camping trip had rocks thrown at his truck during the night and I found this on our last day of that trip

It's rather hard to think of the odds of a seedling growing vertically up through an elk's ribcage on its own to a height of 12 feet, and no sign of a growth period above the skeleton to get through the ribcage horizontally then growing vertically to a 12 foot height. Placed there at some time in the past by a human without damage to the trunk??? Maybe...
But this print having obvious toe - heel contours was within 8 feet of the tree. I was unable to leave any impression in the hardpack myself.

Because of these oddities I am keeping open mind about things I have encountered but have a hard time rationalizing.

All that said, I'd have to see one myself to wrap my head around the idea such a beast has avoided official detection so far.

Would "official detection acknowledgement" result in the species being placed under ESA protection? Could that possibly trigger vast public land restrictions and closures for both commerce and recreation? Maybe even restrictions of activites allowed on private land?

Yeah, I'm not one for conspiracy theories, but have heard that as a motive for suppressing exposure. The economic impact of BF as a extant N. American primate would be orders of magnitude greater than Spotted Owl and Marbled Murrelet combined. Just say'n.

Oh – I think we could make primers. Bigfoot is probably a hominid, and there are enough highly conserved sequences in hominid ribosomal DNA, and so few North American hominids (N = 1)… that we could make primers in the highly conserved regions and look for variation in between. I think we’d have a chance! And, detection limits get smaller every single day. Dare to dream!

We should note that the “Bigfoot is an alien“ option would change that likelihood a lot.

Is that some kind of PNWFF inside joke?

* No, never seen/heard any myself. Sister & BIL had a middle of the night road-crossing sighting in northern MN. The majority of "reports" make me more wary of nutballs out in the woods than of cryptids. But every once in a while there's ones that make me wonder!

I listen to a bunch of different podcasts/YT channels, but this guy is either the world's best actor, or AK is a truly scary place!

LOL- it’s a reference to the TV show “Trailer Park Boys”, a very low budget Canadian series that developed a sort of cult following. I think all the episodes are on Netflix. There’s a character named Bubbles that uses the term Samsquanch.

The show is pretty funny, but it’s certainly not for everyone. You’ll either be in stitches laughing or think it’s the dumbest thing you ever saw.

Yeah - Fred is one of the best storytellers. Some of the AK stories mention a stench, but not always. The main difference seems to be that if there are hairy men in AK, they are NOT friendly!
