.......... While I bet on American exceptionalism, the question will be whether America can maintain a stable, unified national identity without a shared, singular cultural (melting pot) and linguistic baseline.
As an immigrant I can answer that question.

When I took my citizenship exam at 19 I was pretty blase about the whole event having lived in the US since I was six.

At the end of the citizenship ceremony we took the oath of citizenship and I thought I was going to swear allegiance to the United States of America.

You don't.

You swear allegiance to the Constitution of the United States. An idea, not a country. Even at 19 I thought that was REALLY EXCEPTIONAL.

That does mean that you have to teach the kids about the Constitution of the United States and the ideals that it represents. That is our national identity, not a "shared singular cultural and linguistic baseline".

I do think we do need to do a much, much, much better job of teaching that to our children.

allegiance to the constitution vs demanded allegiance to an individual...our current quandary

Actually exactly what you posted is our shared singular cultural and linguistic base. The Constitution and the English language serve as the foundational civic glue. They create a shared framework that allows a diverse "melting pot" to function as a unified society.

Thank you for becoming a citizen!

I thought this interview with Cory Doctorow was very interesting:

How to burst the AI bubble: Strike at its roots - Ars Technica https://share.google/MyOJ0M510omNggbpn

"When the AI investment mania halts, most of the models are going to disappear, because it just won’t be economical to keep the data centers running. The collapse of the AI bubble is going to be ugly. Seven AI companies currently account for more than a third of the stock market, and they endlessly pass around the same $100 billion IOU. AI is the asbestos in the walls of our technological society, stuffed with wild abandon by a finance sector and tech monopolists run amok. We will be excavating it for a generation or more."

Today's sell-off reflects the market starting to realize the circle jerk between the AI/chip/ tech companies is just that, the same money round tripping.
Or as Warren Buffet stated just prior to the .com crash when asked why there were no tech stocks in Berkshire Hathaway holdings...."there has been an enormous amount of money invested in tech on pure speculation that has yet to provide a return on investment"

Not only did Buffet say that but the tech wreck that followed took 15 years to recover. But pulling out that statement is more "dog whistle" than reality.

26 years has past and the reality is the tech proxy QQQ has returned over 600% to 700% in cumulative returns, translating to an average annual return of 9.5-10%. That's a portfolio return that anyone would love to have. Reality is a decade or score of years does not make a portfolio, but a planned strategy with diversification to build and a plan for sequence of returns risk when you start spending is the right play. Referencing the dot bomb bubble to dismiss modern tech gains is fundamentally flawed and the data proves it.

"But what about the millions left without work? Who will buy the products then? Who will fuel the economy if buying power disappears? Efficiency without a customer base is a business contradiction, a looming collapse disguised as progress."

"Capitalism - A love affair"

The last hope is that AI CEOs gigg for tiny, brightly colored frogs!
