Advice for kicking through thick lily pads in a tube?

There are a few ponds around here that are too far to drag a kayak to, but that also have pretty thick lily pads near shore.

Anyone have tricks for kicking out to the clearer water in a float tube?

I buddy once told me he just reaches back and pulls his way through with his hands.

keep your fins up and just below the surface when kicking. it ain't fun, especially when you know you got to do it again when you come in.

What's the bottom like? If it's not soft.
Try making a push pole out of 8' of 1" Schedule 40 pvc add a cap to one end, add a lanyard to the other. Use it between your legs and use your fins atop the water for direction.

Your tube might gather dust after you try it.

If you want to hit the water together shoot me a pm. There are some tricks, but after you figure it out I belive SUPs are the most versatile small fishing craft.

2. Get a telescopic push pole. It will save your a$$ in pad fields. I used to have one that I used with my WaterMaster but can't find the model now - it compressed down to 7' and extended out over 14.

Inflate your tube with helium. That way it floats higher and you have less weeds to deal with.

I've heard hydrogen also works....

But helium will improve your trout call to make it high and squeaky so that fish will come to check it out.

Yeah, but the danger aspect of trying to light up with hydrogen in your tubes might appeal to some. I'm just trying to provide our friend Josh here additional options.....
