Advantages of different hook point shapes?

To make it harder for me to sharpen them if they dull, thereby selling more hooks?

That might be most of it, there are a lot of hooks on the market and you have to do something to make them sell.

However, the logic behind that curved point is to minimize the angle between the direction of pull from the hook eye to the tip of the point, so that it sticks into the fish better in the first moment of contact. I used to bend the point inwards on big siwash hooks and it seemed to help stick more fish.
