Country music dude Dierks Bentley released a song last year called "Beers on me" with alt-hop-hop/country guys Hardy and Breland. If you aren't against country music, It's a pretty cheery song about sharing a brew with friends with the non-Dierks verses helping to expand what is considered "county". If you hate country music, you're talking to the wrong guy. I love virtually all genres of music.

Anyway, the song has the line “buckets for a Lincoln” in there. Meaning 5 beers for $5 bucks. Obviously Bud or Coors or whatever.

This can’t really be a thing, right? When did you last see something like 5 beers for $5? I’m sure I have at some point, but like in 2005 or something maybe. Admittedly, if I’m buying a beer somewhere these days, it tends to be one of the 7 brewpubs I have within walking distance. But it’s not like I never go to a regular bar. I feel like $2 happy hour tallboys of Rainer/PBR might have been a thing I saw in the not too distant past. But I'm pretty sure I saw they were up to $3 when @charles sullivan, @Chris Johnson and I had a beer a few weeks back.

Are we in the northwest just getting screwed out of easy drinking cheap beer? Or do they just assume all we drink is heavy IPAs?

I guess this is also a bit of a "What are you listening to" xpost, so I'll embed the song also.

I like the live performance video better, but you can see the original video (which is kinda cute in a fake "made for TV" way) here in case you are interested.

I remember when a Corona was a nickel in Mexico
In college, in Wisconsin you could get a case of leinenkugel’s beer for $5
I was in college in Wisconsin in Ashland. I think Ashland might have had more bars per capitata than anywhere in the US. It was my first go at college and I majored in beer. We built furniture and bookcases out of those waxed cardboard Leinenkugels cases.

We were up in Hayward Wisconsin fishing during High School and had to take a bus out of Ashland to go back to Chicago. We waited for the bus on Main Street and saw the same firebird and another pick up truck cruise up and down Main Street like 20 times it was ridiculous. Miss Leiny’s we only get the foo foo fruity Leiny’s here in Hawaii.

I sorta remember $1 pitchers on Wednesday nights in college (WWU). I was taking a night time Econ class. The professor owned a tavern in downtown Bellingham. Met there for class a lot.

BEST CLASS EVER!!!

I think I remember those $1 mini pitchers as well. o_O
During the last ownership, Graham's in Glacier had pints of Rainier for $2.

Rainbow bar in Kenai had nickel beers on a week night, can’t remember which night, in the late ‘70’s-mid’80’s. In small solo cups, 8 oz?

I think your answer lies in the fact that you’ve got a buncha old people responding with “I remember when…”

When I was in college, Coach’s Brewhouse had dollar pilsner night every Wednesday. Put five of them in a bucket and you’ve got your song! Of course we all swore they couldn’t have been more than 3% alcohol. But that was about perfect given the amount I liked to drink.

Swannie’s near the Kingdome used to have a special promotion based on Mariners catcher Dave Valle’s batting average. Dave Valle Days. We drank a lot of cheap beer back then thanks to Dave.

Loss leader? Usually that works the other way around though since restaurants and bars make the money on alcohol/lottery sales. 1$ basket of fries or 50cent wings and hope you order five 7$ beers. 5/5$ bucket of beers then hope you order a 12$ burger? Maybe?

I don’t know as I’m not in the restaurant biz.
What I do know is the placed was packed and sold a lot of beer.
The Kingdome as been gone a long time and this was about 30 years ago, so maybe what worked back then might not now.

First of all. I like music. My oldest child told me how much she had been enjoying Waylon Jennings the other day. It was a proud moment for me. I will never understand the I don't like XXXXX type of music people. I mean, I don't care for Florida Georgia line but damn do I like Willie. I don't care for Pitbull but Snoop creates a seriously smooth sound. Everyone has different taste but it never seems reasonable to close your brain down by declaring disdain for an entire genre.

On to beer:

Pitcher of Milwaukee's best were 1.00 on Thursdays at the Monopole in College. Looks like 4.25 for a pitcher of Keystone on Thursday's now.

Beers are like 1 buck a piece in Mexico but I've yet to find the one I like. You can be sure that I'll keep trying though!

I don't mind paying for beer. From Vitamin R to Manny's I like Beer. My biggest complaint is too many IPA's on tap and no balanced beers. America is the greatest beer country on the planet because of the diversity of choice. Why have 4 IPA's and no Pale ale's?

Moscow Idaho Gambinos Fish Bowl - beer. Think it was 5 bucks for basically for a 6 pack in a huge tank glass goblet back in mid 80’s. Drinking age was 19 back then for Idaho. You took the tractor-farm road back to Pullman.

Living in Rochester, NY as a teen our favorite beer was Genesee Cream Ale. Older kids in the neighborhood would buy beer for us, for a tip, so to speak. When I moved here in ‘78 Rainier was my beer of choice in the Whitehorse in Arlington. Then, on a bike trip over Stevens Pass I tried a Hef at Icicle Ales in Leavenworth. Craft and micros have been my choice since, but IPA’s…meh!

Seem to remember a pint being $0.25 when I first started illegally frequenting pubs, course, I could be wrong, memory of those days is a little fuzzy/clouded.

cheers

I don't drink much, actually not at all to be precise. But I love me some country.

Wife and I are going to see Kenny Chesney July 5 here in Bozeman at Bobcat Stadium. That will be fun as fuck.

Screamers!
The brewery in twisp made a cream ale that I had many moons ago when that river was open for steelhead. Well done as I recall. It is a neat style.
