2026 Gardening Growing Thread

Per Jeff Sutherlo The Legal Expert, HOME DEPOT OWES ME MONEY!!! this is based upon the fact that i was in there last Saturday and they failed to show me where to find something within the alotted 5 minute time!!! I'm OWED large sums from the Garden Dept at HOME DEPOT. Hereby!!

Someone get ahold of them and tell them to pay me.

I've planted the Ozette potatoes the past two years but haven't had much luck with them.

I've purchased all types of heirloom and unique potatoes over the years from Grand Teton Organics but I'm just going to stick with Yukons now. I have the most success growing them in large fabric bags.

We rent our home. Can someone with experience give me advice about dwarf fruit trees that can grow in a container so we could bring them with us if we move?

Yeah the battle with squirrels - dammit it has take 7 years but I am winning. Not one furry bastich was harmed unless by The owls and hawks in the downtown trees here. The owl is back actually…owls have a fondness for squirrel tartar
i live up in hazel dell, lakeshore - let the owls know that there are plenty of squirrels around here, and some dipstick neighbor is feeding em peanuts....

It is a happy family here. Found peace with the furry trapeze artists. I am not the sort that kills as a solution I manage my little kingdom.
I spray aphids with a mix of a few drops of dawn dish unscented , a Tblsp of cheap corn oil and warm water in a quart spray bottle , shake and control aphids that way. The white oil spray asphyxiates the soft body bad bugs. Most are not bad and have little issues with insect damage
Because of my companion planting

Went to a local seed swap 5 blocks away. I packaged and labeled last week and dropped them off there several times this month. All saved seed of my heirloom tomatoes peppers and oca. Answered some questions for people even put my seed saving pusher hat on to emphasize the ease of doing so. I grabbed some calabrese sprouting broc and Flower seed that I wanted for small garden focus points

Just gardening in general- it is my greatest love. To many events and goings on challenge my patience in humanity or the lack of it and spending time in the garden cleans the slate for the time spent even just wandering in the garden, no driving anywhere which is no longer a relaxing unnecessary expense and risk everytime That key gets turned-yeah 30 year old small truck.

I bought some new stuff for starting seeds. I plan to plant seed mid- month. Aplied azomite to pots and beds. 5lbs applied to 1000 squ ft to open up about 70 trace minerals. A 12” pot gets 6 tsps added to each one. Some shots of some of my broad Winsor fava beans . Picked arugula astra last night for a swell roasted beet saladIMG_8852.jpegIMG_8851.jpegIMG_8850.jpeg

I may be late in planting, but can anyone recommend any favorite varieties of onions and garlic for the Greenwood area?

Think I will plant snap peas in one small “test site” mid week. Can not truly trust the national weather service predictions that used to be entirely reliable. So we will see. The rest of everything are doing well . Galic at 18” and on schedule. favas(16-24” now). Daikon taking its time… all planted in mid to late September last year.

By the way July 26th 2025 I believe was the beginning of National weather organization getting funding stripped and since then as that service dwindled over the months-eventually went to hell in a hurry. I have been a weather follower for 55 years as a
Year round rotational gardener. Almost anyones guess here but I am always watching the horizons for it all to be better.

That is a good setup for seed starting, but put your light on a pulley so that you can lower it much further down. The amount of light (lumens/foot candles) coming from that lamp is greatly reduced with distance (I believe it is the inverse square of distance). Ideally, at first, you should be about 12-18 inches from the top of the plastic domes. In general, only lettuce seeds need light for germination. The light should also be on a timer with about 8rs of dark

Several of the Garden Types in Rockburg used to go thru Greg's Durt Service. They'd come tear up the yard!!! They'd leave you with nothing but fresh turned up durt!!!! Fresh to plant. Recently signed up for Greg's Durt service monthly rates!!! Servicing the durt since 89!!

Well woke up and decided it is seed starting day. For the 14th time in that many years I swear I will not plant 36 tomato plants and over 20 pepper plants in the garden. I have trouble with restraint in all aspects of my life , well sort of. Today and tomorrow will be a 2026 variety selection day. Though at one time I had over 60 heirloom tomato varieties and have had to make annual rotation lists it will be smaller this year . A few for family and starts for the my spring neighborhood sharing day with a free
Or donate set up.
