2025 Tuna and Exotics

Were you for sure seeing bluefin? Big ones?
Yeah these were fish that were way beyond a size I'd want to hook. If it wasn't end of the day I wouldn't have deployed gear. But we already had a great day behind us so I wasn't worried about wasting time trying to get one in if we succeeded in hooking up.

They were way inside, like at the 124.30, if I remember right.

Cool!

Saw something very similar happen on my last trip out this year. Was very cool to see. We did deploy some gear but mostly out of curiosity. Nothing happened so we continued our trip back to the barn.
Any idea what the bait was?

Would love to see those tanks at least once here in the PNW. Even knowing the futility, I'm not sure I could resist casting into that melee. The first run would be off the charts - the following hours of pain not so much. Nope, something in the 30 to 60# class is what I want.
I know. Sounds like work to me

I’ve been off the Waianae coast trolling towards a bird pile several times when 250 lb ahi fully launched from the water chasing smaller aku…then the short & long corner rods with jet heads go off, following a 45 minute fight on the 80 wides…and time to head inIMG_5018.jpeg
They were smaller 160-170 lb fish…
