2022 Garden Thread

We have a small urban yard, most of which is part shade. But the alley gets good sun. Neighbors have sunny spots and i arranged to grow a little on two neighbors properties too… the images that area it scruffy looking are a couple of beds in a non gardening neighbors plot across the alley and another is a tiny spotwhereI espalliered an aclepsia that are wild invasive and pretty… Sabra my hippy neighbor wanted to keep it

I have been picking kale for a couple weeks about 20-24” tall…red russian variety. Picked a bunch of red Russian kale today… washed drying then into gallon freezer bags to freeze flat once aired dried. I planted a lot of kale last fall and winter, i mean sheesh all that good dirt going to waste it needed to be useful… ;)7805FCF3-023D-4280-9CD4-15420DC265DB.jpeg

Thank you
That’s what I’m missing in my understanding of how to use kale
My wife will be impressed πŸ˜‰
Genius gets the prize

Soups...very good for soups.

Great chicken feed too, they like it better than I do.

We grow perennial kale...so I'm always trying to use it up...
Chickens dig it.
;)

I never really liked kale until i started growing it as a winter crop. The texture and sweetness of just picked kale chopped or torn small in a farro salad with minced shallots, a pinch of Madras curry powder, fresh minced parsley kalamata olives chopped, fresh ground black pepper , sea salt and a juiced lemon rice vinegar honey and water emulsion blended as a dressing, chilled and served with fresh basil leaves and grated parmesan.

Here's a fantastic recipe to use when I'm trying to power through excess kale. It's similar to to a pesto. Speaking of which, Kale pesto is great too.

I'm not a kale fan. My thought is that if you have to add a dozen other ingredients to make kale taste good, that's strong evidence that kale tastes like crap.

It's tolerable with bacon...and ok in soups.

Outstanding chicken feed. Did I mention that ?

I don’t β€œhave to” i like to cook and invent recipes. I am a great cook. I like kale and all kinds of greens. So to each his own. I have a feeling you might not like salisfy. By the way I sometimes like to quickly grill romaine lettuce too. Like I said I like to do the chef thing.
