Figured someone here might be interested in this…

I impulsively purchased a $160 Cortland Guide 10ft 4wt a week ago and took it out on the river today.

Pros:
  • It’s $160. Crazy value.
  • Extremely versatile; euro, dries, wets, bobbers, small streamers.
  • Double down locking reel seat.
  • Fighting butt.
Cons:
  • Swing weight is not low.
  • Not as good for light euro.
The cons are basically exactly what I expected.

I’ve been fishing the Yakima more lately and wanted something more versatile than my 10-10.5ft 3wt euro rods. $160 was cheap enough to take the risk on a rod with almost no reviews. This will be my new big river rod. I tested it with a 4wt Rio Mainstream WF and 5wt Cortland 444 Peach WF. Handled both fine.

The guy from Mad River Outfitters told me he is using one personally. See below for videos.
