Don't. Those tools are likely manufactured in high pollution fashion in China with little environmental controls. Then when they break and you throw them away they increase landfill and waste as well as a need to manufacturer more. I've always felt buying quality American, European, or Japanese stuff was a way to help the planet and straight cut waste. Yes, you pay more. Yes, you will likely pass down those proto tools to the next Gen. Quality products manufactured in responsible manners are good for the planet, good for our economy, and good for your long term use of quality garage bling that will need no replacement for the foreseeable future. Buy quality. The price you pay is often worth it when you factor in all the fringe benefits that are easy to overlook.

I check the used market first for most everything...I mean I buy my underwear and socks new...and food, I like that to be new also.


...but other than that, if it's a major purchase, it's used.

I attribute my ability to have a lot of cool things to the fact I've always been frugal like that. Buying used cars, boats, etc... It pays, literally, over the years.

I bought some speakers new about 7 years ago, but the amp/dac was used...all my furniture is used. Everything you own is used after you bring it home, so I figure why bother with new, but I am a really lousy consumer really...
If a consumer based economy had to depend on me, they'd be screwed.

Quality lives to see the day of a second transaction. Chinesium does not. Couldn't agree more. Quality that is unheard of can often be only found on the second hand market.

I'll never buy a new kitchen knife again. I now have a collection of nice older CaseXX kitchen knives and steak knives, all bought used like new on the big auction site. And since I jumped on the Ken Onion Worksharp train, they are wicked sharp.

Much of that AC interest has been government mandated over the past few years.

I haven’t had AC for the past 20 years. I recently moved from an apartment (living the years mentioned above) into a house and it has a heat pump. Not gonna lie, but I am really enjoyin’ the AC.

One of the great ironies about all this is the continent that is suffering the most, Africa, is the one that contributes the least to the issue.

Our conclusion was glad we live in the Western Washington. My conclusion is we should move closer to the Pacific Ocean. More temperate there...

with 8 billion folks on a shrinking rock, paradise went south long ago...best possible outcome is to find a place that checks enough boxes to make a stand, find as much peace as possible in that space between the ears
