    Pet behavior

We had a cat named Archie. He was a real jerk but we loved him nonetheless. Archie would jump on the bed in the morning to tell you he wanted his food. If he was really annoyed and especially demanding about it, he'd bite us on the nasal septum! He only did that to me once because I had no...

Grilling salmon (other methods also allowed for discussion) - your go-to recipes and techniques

I have a cast iron charcoal grill that I have seasoned with multiple coats of oil. It's so well seasoned that I place a nice thick slab of king salmon on it and cook it over hot coals. Turn it once and there is no sticking whatsoever. The seasoning took lots of time but it is worth it -a...

I'd nominate Linda Ronstadt for the greatest female rock and roll voice.

    Spill your curry secrets

I have a jar of lime pickle my limey friend made. Large chunks of lime (peel on), star anise, cayenne, a little oil and an inordinate amount of salt. Taking a bite of it will make you wince! My friend describes it as "pleasantly distasteful." It makes a great accompaniment to a spicy...

    Spill your curry secrets

I did a little experimenting with fruits in various Indian curries. Apples, currents, tomatoes and mangos were all good albeit fairly standard. An ingredient which was a smashing success was dried sour cherries. I had high hopes for dried apricots but they turned out to be a real dud.

RIP Skip. I'll miss your eclectic tastes and all the obscure music you introduced me to here.

    BC Going to Permanent DST

Good for them. Changing the clocks and starting everyone work/school/business, etc. day an hour earlier (later) twice a year is beyond ludicrous. If it's really desirable to start earlier (later) for part of the year, just do it and leave the clocks alone. It's really all we're doing anyway...

    NFR F150 & Ecoboost

The 2-valve 5.4l engines like yours were solid. The subsequent 3-valve models were not. My '98 5.4l F150 has 235k and runs great. I'm skeptical that a twin turbo V6 with 10-speed transmission will be anywhere near as long lasting, especially if it used for towing and hauling.

    Bad cold or something viral

My Rx and preferred medicine for a bad cold (or just the hint of a slight sniffle) is a good brandy snifter with a nice cognac. This therapy is best administered in a quiet, dimly-lit room close to a blazing fire (omit the fire if you don't have a fireplace or wood stove). Dispense a small...

SFR New used truck - potentially

I bought my '98 F150 with 75k miles and it just keeps running strong. Towing, hauling firewood or traveling on our primitive shot-rock logging roads it just performs. It's now got over 235k miles and while nothing lasts forever, it's still not showing any signs of slowing down.

NFR Alcohol going out of style

I've read your loud, aggressive, brutish posts for quite some time but never ever could have imagined that you'd be the light shining brightly through through the impending digital darkness and giving us hope for humanity. Keep up the good fight Travers. Godspeed.
