    Jon Boat Oar Lock Sockets

get a couple blocks of delrin; cut a lip deep enough to bolt to transom and drill for your lock? Benefit is you can get a block big enough to adjust the oarlock height if necessary, and it's not going to corrode no matter what you do with it.

    Alternatives Sought

I'm also currently going through a similar move-from-hell. I had a bunch of 1.7 cu ft flip top plastic totes (Uline S-25644) that got repurposed. Cheap(-ish) and a bit more sturdy than a cardboard box. Wrap fragile stuff with newsprint. They're way better for books than cardboard!

    SFR Shad Fishing

OMG, how did the kid's drawing of the girl eating a shad(?) make it past the editor?!! I've been laughing for the past two hours over that one!

    Fish ID at riffe lake

Don't get me wrong, I wish there was a way to make bass/sunfishes/walleye/pike disappear from the PNW too, but there's no going back. "Control" of aquatic invasives is damn near impossible even under the best of conditions and is a giant money sink unless it's a tiny & isolated body of water and...

    Florida Peacock bass

Pick a canal, nearly any canal. Little guys are all over the place. The USGS has a database of nonindigenous aquatic spcies records that's pretty useful ;) (https://nas.er.usgs.gov/viewer/omap.aspx?SpeciesID=437)

    Fish ID at riffe lake

Once they're established, there's no going back short of VERY dramatic measures, and I don't mean rotenone. Basses, sunfishes, bullhead catfishes, pikes, etc. were native to (and diverse in!) much of the PNW prior to the formation of the Cascades. Volcanic activity and shifts in climatic...

    SFR onX mapping

Your phone is also not terribly accurate. I just wrapped up a couple of weeks mapping vernal pools during amphibian surveys, using an iPad running ArcGIS. The built-in gps receiver was only good for about 3-4m accuracy so I picked up a cheap (~$110) Garmin GLO 2 receiver to add additional...

    Tadpoles, anyone?

Some but not all. Most amphibians that evolved in a predator-rich environment have toxic defenses. Those are energetically costly to produce, so things that didn't have to (critters that used fish-less waters, high elevation or ephemeral) usually don't.

    Devils Lake Again...

Paul does really nice stuff! I've spent about 20 years sampling with and taking fish reference photos for Joe Tomelleri to illustrate (or for my own use in scientific publications), and also do scientific illustration of fishes as well. A couple comments (and apologies if Paul has already...

A quick request in support of salmon conservation, time-sensitive

Sorry to ask, but Iceland is currently asking for public comments regarding a bill that would expand net-pen aquaculture in that country. Even if you've never fished Iceland (but you really, really, really ought to), your voice will matter. Expansion will seriously imperil some amazing...

Great tying video on tying theory/etc

Funny you should post this. I finished my swap flies this past weekend, also using a split-ring and separate hook but with a slightly different approach... There's many ways to skin a cat. ;)

Battery Powered Inflatable Paddleboard Pump Recommendations?

Inflatable paddleboards are different than toons or rafts or other LP floaties. Just a couple psi (say the difference between 17 and 20) can make the difference between a board that handles as designed and one that paddles like a pig. Don't know about pumps with integrated batteries, but I've...

    BIG articulated streamer swap

Hair density and length are my two biggest criteria, but if you mostly tie "smaller" streamers it's not as critical.

    BIG articulated streamer swap

Awww, but that's what late night tying sessions are for! Is everyone else in the swap tiger-focused, or are these likely to do double duty for other critters (lingcod, bass, bulls, etc.)?

    BIG articulated streamer swap

OK, I'll play. Waffling between two options: one more traditional, the other downright deadly... not sure I want it out of the bag yet though. ;)
