Johnny Bass Thumb...

I guess I could say that I found more than a few....here are a few though.

yes, I know, vertical hold....blah blah blah...selfies are hard, and when you have to keep all 13 of your followers happy, well, exceptions must be made.

a couple of the flies that got it done...

The smallie snack. Didn't get fished a ton, but it was responsible for putting 2 18" fish in the net (out of 7 that went 18" plus)

This one did most of the damage (I had tied up 2 of them). One of them lost all 7 feathers on the tail and the other lost 6 of 7, but the bucktail underneath held strong!

Final tally was 7 fish 18" or over with the largest just under 20", 3 just over 17" and most of the rest were cookie cutter 13-15" fish with a handful of smaller dummies thrown in (most of those came on the topwater)...

It's been about 6 years since I've really hit it this good with this number of high quality fish, I'll take what I can get when I really only fish smallies pre-spawn.

I THINK I can make out where you were. And if I'm correct, I got fully skunked there last week.

I was telling him - this spot and others nearby are typically red hot for like 2-3 days per year, but then completely dead the rest. I've hit it just right before, and no return trips in the same year ever produced results. Those fish get in, do their thing, and GTFO.

Well, I usually do pretty decent throughout May there, but it has been about 6 years or so where it's been like that with numbers plus size.

I wouldn't give up on finding a post spawn topwater bite. Just saying.
I'm full on Tiger Musky and Carp mode by then, which makes it tough to squeeze in some time there...unfortunately.

Billy doesn't know or understand the carp mode stoke.

Totally understand not finding the faux Musky stoke, cause he actually wants to catch fish. For me, seeing that 4' toothy apex predator inhale a 10" fly right next to the boat with my feet dangling down there is life changing (or 'ruining')....

But man, carp stoke is real....once you start to unlock a few secrets.

Let's just call a spade a spade--I'm not NEARLY as fishy as Randy.

Talk to me after I get my ass handed to me by faux Muskies.
