A quick request in support of salmon conservation, time-sensitive

Sorry to ask, but Iceland is currently asking for public comments regarding a bill that would expand net-pen aquaculture in that country. Even if you've never fished Iceland (but you really, really, really ought to), your voice will matter. Expansion will seriously imperil some amazing populations of Atlantic salmon and sea-trout (anadromous browns that get massive and aren't being given enough love).

The simple approach for US/Canada based folks:
  • Send an email to samradsgatt@stjornarradid.is referencing bill number S-252/2025.
  • Comments need to be received by COB on Monday Jan 26th -- please do it ASAP!!
  • It could be as simple as "This is a terrible idea, and I stand against expanding sea-based net-pen aquaculture in Iceland." or you can expand as much as you'd like. As a practicing fisheries biologist/ichthyologist, mine was rather long and included references. ;)
For background info, check out:

Cheers!

Done, my statement...

This is a terrible idea, and I stand against expanding sea-based net-pen aquaculture in Iceland. I have never been to Iceland but it is on my bucket list to go and fish for Atlantic Salmon there some day.

I live in Washington state in the USA and we had a net pen collapse a few years ago that released thousands of Atlantic Salmon into Puget Sound.

These non native fish should never have been alowed in net pens here in the PNW, they have caused damage to native salmonoids up and down the west coast of North America!

All net pens should be eliminated, the environmental damage they cause is not worth it, maybe to the few executives, but to all the surrounding communities, Salmon and environment suffer.

Thank you from the bank of the Skykomish River
