A couple things to report. On the advice of a rod builder, I rubbed the rod with alcohol and it took away a lot of the cloudy surface. It's an old rod that will never look pristine but is definitely improved. I'm visiting my son in Jackson Hole, and he took me up a hike-in trib of the Snake...

I have an old "Custom Built" 8 foot, 5 piece, 6 wt fiberglass rod with glass ferrules. It doesn't have a label but it sure looks like s-glass. It's kinda cool being 5 piece and very translucent like s-glass. Any guesses as to the origin of this blank??

I caught a blue cat once, and a walleye, so that's possible. I've seen TV shows where they catch halibut on a fly but seems like a sturgeon would be a challenge

Sad to say the seals on The Cape are a serious problem and were on the flats. We were out on Monomoy, and the seals were quite close, but none tried to take a hooked fish but did spook the pods. The small seals are rather curious and one swam right in front of me... As I was slapping the water...

Reading some of the other threads I saw some opinions about when, how often, to re-tie the tippet and fly. Full disclosure: I hate re-tieing! If my knot was good enough to land the fish, my next knot might be weaker. Sigh... For a couple years now, I've had a big wind-knot up in the fat...
