I had to have one more day chasing carp. Unlike yesterday, it was calm at home but a bit windy at the lake and the wind was blowing from the north so the sun was in my face rather than my back. No clouds. (The wind let up and became slightly southerly, muy bueno.) Unlike yesterday, no cloopers and really no schmoots so I didn't bother with trying a beetle.
I started out with the same fly that worked yesterday but I'd freshened the tippet. I managed to get one fish to eat the carp maul but it seemed the fish were in deeper water today and that fly sinks very slowly. I changed up to a fly with a bit more weight and caught three fish with it and then didn't follow the rule: clip off the fly and retie after three fish. Yeah, I broke it off on the fourth fish - at the strike and set. I tied on a size 10 hybrid and watched a carp turn to the fly, follow it going chomp, chomp and, I think, suck it in. I must of set too quickly as I never felt the fish and it didn't get a chew going.
The fish behavior in this lake is changing. The big flat was almost void of fish where normally, with visibility as good as it was today, I'd be able to see lot of tailing fish and fish just sort of vacuuming the bottom. They were rare today, instead there were lots of fish schooled up and cruising fast (and very skittish). It was a tough day all around.
I made four casts to a carp, four and it didn't blow out. WTH? This is why:
From 40 or 50 feet away, this 55 gallon barrel looks very carpy. (I think this was the third time I've made consecutive cast to the same barrel. DA!)

Capr season is winding down for me. I told my wife I was done with them for this year; she just gave me "the look".
