Tell us your best " last cast" story(s)

Thanks for the pics. The last cast for me was on the N. Umpqua River near (blank) creek. I had had a very good day and had caught many small RB's and Coastal cutts. I tired from the walk and wade of about a 1/2 mile over slippery rocks and bed rock, so I said to myself, time to head home. There...

That was fun to watch. Thanks

Why Are Fish Swallowing the Hook?

The last larger size coastal cutts (14" plus) I've caught have taken my Sally X dry fly deep into their gills. I was able to release all but one unharmed. I explain this as the trout being aggressive feeders. They want that big fat fly really bad. I have also had large trout completely swallow...

SFR Confessional: I kinda hate November

Ya all want some cheese and crackers with yer whine. But, I'm with ya on the fishing sucks in November, My river is brown and the creeks are all closed, the warm water fish are hiding out. At least the dust is settled on my road

    Just remove the quiet hours!

My favorite is a campground on the Clark Fork in MT with the railroad crossing right across the river. The train has to use it's horns before it gets to the crossing, and there was a train going by at least a half a dozen times every night.

    Nymphing . . Hook set

A little off point, but I figure when the fish gets off it saves me the issue of release. When fish are getting off for what seems like no reason I check my hook for sharpness. I have never done the dropshot thing when nymphing. I tie my nymphs weighted so I do have the extra hinge to deal with.

Chinook observed in Klamath River tributary above Iron Gate

Thanks for the pics. This does not surprise me at all, get the damn dam out of the way and life will go now. As a kid I went with my folks to Iron Gate one summer to picnic with friends. The pics of that creek look just like that creek that drained into the lake.

    Naches River

I fished it and tribs. Caught many small trout. Adams, and small caddis flies worked for me.

    Great day fishing gone wrong

I grew up fishing a floating the Rogue River and I have seen my short life pass before my eyes as I have been wiped off my float from a swiper, then bounce off the river bottom. Glad to read you survived and saved your gear too!!!!

    Salmon rod weight

Rod wt, line wt are not equal to a fisher mans skill. I have caught some nice steelhead on a 3 wt rod and landed them in little time, because I know how to use my rod and line and the river to fight those fish. Those 3 wt rods I own have really good back bone and by laying the line down in the...

    Too Hot For Trout

My home owners insurance just about doubled after we had a big wildfire and had to evacuate and the next year another big wildfire. The previous fire kept the last fire out of town. I live in Western OR, but the summers these days have little to no rain for two months My mortgage payment only...

    Too Hot For Trout

I'm heading for Helena in a couple days and the high temps in the high 80's low 90's is not what I had in mind. I was planning to fish a couple days in ID as we travel through and a couple days on one of my favorite little blue lines before getting to Helena. Something to think about.

More dams being removed across the country = more fish habitat

I'm pretty much not into a pissing match about agreeing or disagreeing about that dam (Winchester) on the N. Umpqua river. I think that dam should have been removed before the first repair was done. I also think there is not enough public access to the N. Umpqua river down stream from Glide. I'm...

More dams being removed across the country = more fish habitat

Just my opinion. The oldest dam in Oregon should have been removed many years ago, but no the damn thing just keeps being repaired at the cost of living fish. Damn shame. Damn dams

    MT in Mid Oct

I have fished the Missouri River in Oct. just down river from Helena and had an awesome time from shore. Them's some big ass RBs and Browns in that river. I don't know anything about who to hire to guide ya. O'ya there are walleye that will make ya shit yerself. So take some spin gear and some...

    Got Yelled At

Check your state regs. When I lived in WA I was told that even if I didn't have a hook on the end of my line I was fishing, open or closed water didn't matter. Someone yelling at you is their problem. I'm not a LEO and it is not my job to tell you if you are breaking a law. So cast away and if a...
