    Last Day (late report)

Idaho has a couple of spring bear units that stay open until July 31st. Most of the time they aren’t accessible until early July so it seems fair that they stay open a month longer than the rest of the units. I have always wanted to give it a go but normally by the time July rolls around, I’ve...

    Thoughts on Ground Blinds

The one you showed was cool looking. My experience with natural built ground blinds for bowhunting is that they aren't all that useful and can actually be a detriment. If you build it high enough to conceal your draw you can't shoot. If you can shoot, then it's not tall enough to truly conceal...

    Thoughts on Ground Blinds

Sorry, I was trying to say I would use one that someone built. I wouldn't dream of getting into one someone bought.

    Thoughts on Ground Blinds

If I built one with sticks and such, it’s not mine. If I bought one, I feel differently, but I know some disagree. Spots are never mine, but my stuff is.

    SFR Old Trails Fire Update

Man…I’m so sorry. My mom lives in that same neighborhood you do…somehow her home survived. The pictures she has shared with me are awful.

    Got any bird pics?

Thank you sir! I didn’t even see the owl when I initially started shooting the tanager.

    Got any bird pics?

I think this is the female version of the yellow bird.

    Got any bird pics?

I recognize the bird in the foreground as a yellow bird and the bird in the background as an owl😂. I shot those while waiting to recover a bear I had shot a few minutes earlier. It was a great distraction.I shot the bear with a completely different tool than the birds.

NFR Sinlahekin Fire still at "0" containment and spreading!

All of my family lives in Spokane, most of them on the NW side of town. The videos they have sent are terrible. My mom, sister, and uncle’s houses all survived but most of their neighbors didn’t.

    NFR What Are You Reading

@Zak I’m not sure what you know about Meditations, so forgive me if if you already know this, but it’s not really a book. It’s a compilation of Marcus Aurelius’s journal so it doesn’t read like a book. It wasn’t written with the intention of anyone else reading it. It doesn’t have chapters...

Reflections from the end of my first long term relationship

"I’m committed to nothing serious for the next two years" Figure out who you are and where you're going, then find someone to go with you.

Has anyone made cased sausage? Worth the trouble?

I have done it several times, but I had the good fortune of doing it with a group of guys who had all of the commercial equipment, walk-in cooler, massive tables and space for all of that, along with a giant commercial smoker. It was a spectacular facility! Despite all of the advantages I just...

    NFR What Are You Reading

Last week I started Meditations. On one hand I feel dumb for having waited until I was 51 to read this. It could have been incredibly helpful when I was in my 30’s. On the other hand, it might have been wasted on the 30 year old me.

    Nobody Likes a Bully…

That day, I had it tied directly to the bend. I have tried several different methods with tags and what not. I’m not 100% certain what way is best. I was 3 Coors light’s and a healthy pour of Four Roses into the afternoon when I rigged that setup. The small fish coming off the dry fly and the...
