    Bulk sinking line source?

Issue with all the bulk I've seen is it's the 30lb core stuff and not the big game 50lb core.

SFR "Premium" purchases you found to be "worth it"

I'd even say there's a bigger difference between vintage glass and modern glass than there is modern glass and graphite.

El Nino is definitely on its way

In my experience, which is limited, "exotics" off the Oregon Coast seem to just be random events, and El Nino years don't seem to produce any more than others. Seems like each year has its prominent exotic species: Some years (like last year), it's lots of marlin. Year before that was...

Dries and indicators aren't really part of what I do much these days, so not sure. I'm sure the 5wt with a double taper or presentation taper would do just fine. Probably would need a more aggressive line for good indicator fishing. I'm guessing it'd be more suited to dries overall, though...

I have two 1970s vintage Fenwick glass 7wts, one being a blank built on by @Salmo_g. I updated the cork, reel seat, and added a fighting butt. Super fun carping stick (it's the one in my profile pic).

Makes for easier everything. On the tuna 12wt, it is the difference between me enjoying using the fly rod or not. I do not enjoy fighting a sounding albacore on a 9' graphite rod whatsoever.

How could I forget my recent custom-built rods? Never had a custom rod built. I've had rods reworked, repaired, restored, etc, but never from scratch. All built by ProLite in Olympia. 12wt glass rod for tuna. Had the 8' blank chopped to 7'6" After being happy with my 12wt, I had him...

    Oregon coast report

Legitimately one of the best fish we have out here. They're not at all a mackerel in anything but name. Like you say, they're a jack more closely related to yellowtail.

Yeah, lots has changed in the last 5yrs or so with foams and I jumped on the "new" bandwagon. Brooks and Hoka are the main hold-outs, and it's worked well for them. EVA is comfortable and familiar, so anyone trying on shoes is going to pick them. The new PEBA and other material foams are far...

Well, that makes one of us. Not a Brooks guy (they stick with EVA foam which I've long moved past). They're comfortable, but not fun to run in for me. But that's a whole other thread, haha.

Relatable. I got some Lowa Tibets and they're so worth it. But I'm also a huge running shoe geek so appreciating quality footwear is very much my wheelhouse.

Could be fishing/outdoor related or not. We're always talking about and looking for bargains. But what about the other end of the spectrum? What have you splurged on that you would do all over again? I have way too many to list... but a recent one, and the one that inspired me to start...

    Garibaldi Tuna! - July 31

Yeah, I've been searching for a long time to find the right rod for my fly polin, and finally got it. Took thinking "outside the box" a bit. Not sure why I didn't think of chopping one down sooner. But... I also never thought about shopping for blanks until this year either. Spent too much...

The struggle stick is 7'6". I had him chop down the 8' blank. The sables were at 800'. Electric reels 😉

    Garibaldi Tuna! - July 31

Got my boat out for the first run of the season today. Tired and lots to do still, so full report likely in a day or so after processing fish, cleaning the boat, etc etc. Ended up with 26 before noon then stopped for a deep drop for bonus sable fish on the way in. Radio chatter and talking...
