Either trolled on an intermediate or cast/strip on intermediate or fast sinking for me. I caught one of my biggest wild rainbows on that fly, but haven't used it much the last few years. It's a good searching pattern during the caddis hatch that could also double as a dragon nymph near the bottom.

I prefer FABs to the traditional Booby fly. They always seem to work best at the times that the fish are off the bite or on something small that you can’t imitate. Try all sorts of bright color combos…they all seem to work.

100%. If I'm only allowed to use 1 fly year round on any lake it's the black leech with a hot bead. Olive six-pack is a close 2nd for me and great when the caddis are hatching. If Chironomids are hatching then put me down for a #14 ASB style with white bead...it always seems to work.

If you don’t mind packing in a float tube/waders or a raft the high lakes are a great option. Late summer can be a great time because the mosquitos are done for the year and the berries will be everywhere.

Technically only 2 full day sessions for me, but I fished it every evening. This was the first time in four years that my dad fished any lake other than "Favorite" (half day on "Mountain"). He just takes his float tube for the days when all of the boats are taken.

I haven't fished the Chena, but I have a friend in Fairbanks and he catches big grayling there all summer. I did fish a lot of grayling when I lived in AK. As far as flies go they aren't very selective. Small emergers and bead head nymphs work great...leeches also as long as they aren't too...

A bit further than an hour for Tacoma, but a good fish and hike lake for future trips is Coldwater down by St. Helens...especially on a day when wind isn't too much.

I fished it for the first time back in April. Caught 17 the first day and 8 the second. Only 1 brown and the biggest fish was a 20" rainbow. I don't have any "good old days" to compare it too, but I enjoyed my time on that lake.

I've never noticed issues with snagging due to a 2nd fly. My experience has been that a lot of the BC guys that haven't fished other places are very against two flies, but those that fish outside BC would love to bring the 2-fly option to BC. Alberta is the opposite of BC...you can only fish...

None of the above for me. I tried tying to the hook bend for a few weeks once, but I noticed a big increase in the number of takedowns that didn't result in hookups. Option A (preferred): Leave an ~8" tag off of a surgeon's knot about 3-4' above my point fly...dropper gets tied to that...
