Dennis, is Afternoon hole the long left hand bend below IRS which flows along US 2? Today the top of the pool has a nice riffle and break. The middle of the pool is a big wide flat (bull trout water). The tail of the pool is very slow and not particularly fishy.

Agree that a type 3 tip or very short line is what you need to do when fishing the riffle head.

This fish was approximately 20 miles upstream from the salt water.

I put my farlows on Sharpes spliced bamboo fly rods. Have 9', 10', 12', 13' and 14' Sharpes spliced bamboo rods. They are switch and spey casting machines and excel at casting longer belly spey lines. I use the Rio Midspey, Barrio switch, Bridge Wintertide and Carron spey lines.

A 15 inch fish caught today on an S river. Adipose fin indicates it's wild. Trout or One salt steelhead or Jack coho?

No idea why most streamer flies have turned down eyes. A 5x long straight eye hook is recommended for thunder Creek minnows because it makes it easier to manipulate the materials at the head when tying. Surprised noone wants to tie muddlers with straight eye hooks for the same reason.

I have some 5/0 mustad m’s. I trot them out every now and then for dry line steelhead
