    What fish is this?

I was about to say I had caught one of those skagit half pounders last july plunking for sockeye on the skagit in Burlington, only it was more 19-20". Dime bright and clearly salty I'm now wondering if it wasn't a rare skagit summer that had returned as a small 3-4yo. Fish are cool

Ok - streamer fishing using a mono rig ?

I tightlined nymphed a 7" intruder through some logs with a 13'8 spey rod yesterday. It was awful and I lost the fly. Euro nymphing doesn't work!

    Atlantic trolling flies

Looking for the tuna guys to check in here. I have some friends that have decided they've had enough of this political climate and are hitting the high seas. They've requested flies that can be trolled through the propwash as they move. I would love to tie some stuff for them that had a...

    OP Steelhead are not Endangered

To be clear, I agree they're not currently over the line into harming the resource, but was just speaking to the existence of a line where there are just too many effective guides catching too many fish, too often.

    OP Steelhead are not Endangered

Guiding is hard for me. I've known and utilized some really great guides who care passionately about the resource and traffic more in appreciation than exploitation. However at a certain density, even all the guides having the best of intentions is still harming the resource. I don't know what...

Anyone ever chop a skagit head down?

Please report back, I've been too chickenshit to chop this 650 head I have off its integrated line and down to 550-25'ish.... The more I fish the more I realize that optimal lineups are cool but hardly necessary. You can fix it by fixing yourself, and that's what I really love about fly...

Anyone ever chop a skagit head down?

Just a thought, adjusting tip and leader length might give you the result you're looking for. I shoot for a total system of 3x rod length. I use a short (23' 550g) head for a long rod (13'6) and generally a 12.5ft tip. That gets me to 35.5 ft, and that fishes well with 2-7ft of leader. If I'm...

Echo Swing for NorCal - S. OR rivers?

I find grain windows to be pretty flexible. Lighter lines- faster motions to maintain and increase load, heavy lines-slow down to load it deep and let the rod do the launching. Also depends on the flies your tossing. Mass moves mass and all that.

Western Washington Draft Proposal - Cooling Our Streams

I know this will likely be an unpopular take in this era of inflation, but i don't think wood should be cheap. I don't think food should be cheap either. We make them cheap by betraying the land that provides them. We clear cut and monocrop the land until it can no longer function. The question...
