    SFR 45 years ago today…..

We were in Olympia visiting relatives when we got word that I-5 was closed because the mountain blew up. As quickly as we could, we packed and drove to 101 to get back to Corvallis. At the bridge at Astoria, it was a bumper to bumper traffic jam over the entire bridge. It must have taken us...

    Morel Mission

Looks like the macro lens is working pretty good to me. I need to buy a new one for my DSLR but now is not a good time for me to be buying expensive lens.

USPS inefficiency with a simple shipment

I don't think they had this sort of problem during the Pony Express days.

    wolves...

Whoa ! Was the beaver actually rabid or just in a very bad mood . I used to run into beaver while fishing the coastal rivers in Oregon. Some would freak out and slap their tail but none attacked with a vengeance. Unless the critter was really rabid, the athletic dept at OSU needs to...

    NFR RIP Capt Insano Emeritis

This is the painting Skip did of me fighting a large trout at a lake we used to fish. In my photography, I'm a sucker for action shots of fishing. Skip knew that and made the water color of an action shot he took. Dammit, Skip. You weren't supposed to suddenly go around the bend.

    NFR RIP Capt Insano Emeritis

Skip was a very long friend and fishing buddy of mine. This is the first I've heard that he passed on. He was a special guy and I cherish the watercolor paintings he created for me. Rest in peace, Capt'n.

    wolves...

Geez. I had no idea they're already in the Metolius area. They didn't take long to get there considering they started out in Idaho. Evidently wolves do not abide by state lines.

Have you seen or own these new waders?

The waders appear to be a product thought up by someone who really doesn't use waders.

NFR Queens are out and about

I rank yellowjackets up there with ticks. The damned things will sting you just for the hell of it. Normally, a honey bee will leave you alone once they figure out you have no pollen for the taking but the yellow versions seem mad all the time. When I was a kid just about every weekend...

    Pike Minnow Season Opening

I wonder how effective this program really is? Who is paying the reward? The owner's of the dams? Maybe it works but it seems like a lengthy process to wipe out a native species because the damns screwed up the runs of the wild anadromous fish.

    WDFW Digital license

Weird. In Oregon, if you go to the ODF&W site, they sell licenses, permits and tags as if you're buying items at Amazon. You put everything in a shopping cart and pay for it all when you check out. The receipt can be used as proof and you can keep it on the site under your account for as...

    SFR Superstitions?

I'm not superstitious but I do know a couple of facts that I have gained from experience: 1) no one in your fishing group should ever, ever say "well at least it can't rain any harder", because it will. 2) no one should ever say that catching Yellowstone Cutts with dry flies is too easy...

    NFR "Holmes"

I'm also a fan of Holmes but not really a purist. There is a version on Britbox staring Jeremy Brett that I really enjoyed. It showed Holmes as a bit dingy but not over the top dingy like the Robert Downey Jr. version.

    Weedless Wiggler

I've tried a lot of weedless patterns but it is usually the leader or fly line that hangs up on the vegetation just as much as the fly. It could be that because I'm using a SuperCat pontoon boat my angle is too shallow and if I was casting from a boat, I might not hang up as much. Great...
