Oregon Ballot Initiative on Hunting and Fishing

I don’t see this issue posted on the site. Many of you live in Oregon and more of us fish there. Although it is unlikely to pass by the voters in Oregon, it appears that it will be on the ballot. The DRA has a post on their blog that is informative.

The scary thing about this is that they tried to get it on the ballot a few years ago and didn't get enough signatures. Looks like they did this time. As ridiculous as this initiative is, it seems to be gaining at least some traction. Never underestimate the stupidity of voters. For a lot of them, all they will see is "ban hunting" and not read into the rest of the initiative.

Getting things on the ballot in OR is also a really low bar, basically don't need to do anything other than hang out in front of new seasons in Portland for a few weeks and you should get the required number.

I'm not particularly worried. They MASSIVELY misrepresented what the petition was when they collected signatures. Many who signed it have since spoke up that they absolutely do not support this. It's getting enough press now that it will likely get voted down in a big way.

The fly fishing and tying communities spoke up loudly the first time around; enough word got out that they (un-educated) whimpered away. This time around they flat out lied to those signing.
