Methow River opens for steelhead, first time in 9 years

The region is about 50% through their quota for steelhead specifically for the Methow River - a great opportunity to catch (and cook) a hatchery steelhead with a backdrop that's hard to match. We hired Leaf Seaburg who is a steelhead whisperer, lead us into many opportunities. I even got a...

gonna be in Kauai next week - should I bring fly gear?

Hey Jim, just got back from Kihei myself - tough fishing on this trip with the king tides (best tides are one hour before low to incoming in the morning hours before the trade winds kick up). I had a few shots at bones, broke one off and my buddy landed a dandy. I also caught a few golden bar...

What weight rod do you recommend to beginners in the PNW? (2024 version)

In my experience, a 9-foot, 5-weight, 4-piece fly rod with a medium-fast action blank is the best option for anyone new to fly fishing. My top seller is the 5-weight rod, and many customers have shared positive feedback, noting how much it improved their initial fly fishing experience.

What is your favorite brand of fly line, leader and tippet and WHY?

My Dad had always used the 444 Cortland series, I need to give that a try myself. Today, I have been using the Cortland Finesse Trout II and Trout Boss which have done pretty well so far.

What is your favorite brand of fly line, leader and tippet and WHY?

Anyone else looking for other options for fly line, leaders and tippet? The only thing I can find in my local fly shops (WA, OR, ID, MT, UT) is either RIO or SA...I have had some issues with RIO lately and don't have much experience with SA. Cortland is my preferred brand, but rarely find a...
