    Sunglasses

Looking for advice on prescription sunglasses. Last time I needed new glasses I got a discount on a second pair so I got a pair of sunglasses. What I'd call 'regular glasses', which are fine for driving but not so great on the water due to glare coming in from the sides. So, I think I'm ready...

    What's in your vise?

Since my trip to the St. Joe in September where I witnessed the trout taking what I originally called a Spruce Moth (actually the Fall Webworm Moth, essentially a white Spruce Moth), I have been playing with imitations for them. Mainly trying to capture the broad wings which would lay flat on...

How did you end up in your career?

Promised my mother I would go to college, but I was a very reluctant and marginal student. Made it half-way through my junior year when I made it through the draft lottery without a call, so off to Vermont to ski bum for a season. Back to school for a year and one half to somehow achieve a...

Yes, that would have been a good idea, but sadly no. I will however do that in the future.

    Lost fly box

By the way, if you are going up there soon, be sure you are packing spruce moth patterns.

    Lost fly box

A huge longshot, but want to give it a try... Just returned from a 4-day trip to the St. Joe. On Saturday I parked at the foot bridge above Tuner Flats and I'm pretty sure my box full of foam flies fell out of my vest as I was heading out. There were 3 or 4 other rigs parked there at the time...

How many rods have you broken?

I lied, actually I forgot. I broke the tip top off a Cabela's 8 wt about 20-25 years ago. Caught it on the siding while walking back to the house after yard casting it right after I got it. Was able to replace the tip top and only lost about an inch off the thing. Still 2 rods in a long...

How many rods have you broken?

Only one in over 50 years of fishing. A Sage LL 4711 tip carelessly putting it in the truck when it caught on the headliner trim. It was already an old rod and Sage replaced the tip section but said it was one of the last ones they had.

Things you wish you knew before you serviced your outboard

The first time maintaining my Merc I discovered the lower unit plugs had been installed with an impact driver at the dealership. There was no way I could get them out manually. Ended up going back to the dealership ($$$). I now have one of those impact screwdriver you hit with a hammer. Will...

    Possible boat box at Costco

Sold out at Coho and Costco per their websites. Can get one on Ebay for over $100. Will cruise through my local Costco and see if there are any left. Would be good tackle situation for my boat.

Heart break hotel (stories of despair)

The only fish that haunts me still was lost in early 90s on a five-day trip to the West Branch of the Delaware River. It had been raining for a few days before we got there, and the river was pretty high. The rain just kept coming and by the second day it was unsafe to wade. By late morning...
